Chapter 1 arriving soon...

Prologue: Copy.

Stained glass windows casted colorful patterns on the hardwood floor. Cries and shouts of children echoed throughout. The only one who remained quiet was him. He was the runner up. The ideal replacement for L. The one who harvested the same mannerisms, the same thought patterns, and the same physical image. If L was ever killed, he would certainly be the one to step up to take his place. Beyond Birthday, the ideal L, was so similar, but yet so different. Where L worked in the name of justice, B defied it. When L arrested a criminal, B applauded the crime. When blood was spilled, L would clean it up, but B would run his fingers through it, tasting the sweet promise it brought with the thrill of death.

"B is the copy. If the original is destroyed, then the copy will no longer be the copy, but only the original."

Everyone always looked up to L. His intelligence knew no bounds. Everyone wanted to be like him. Everyone wanted to be like B. They were, after all, the same. B could figure out cases just as fast as L and use the same deduction skills to evaluate a situation. L and B reacted the same, thought the same, acted the same, but were far from similar. L was righteous, B was not. L was everything good, B was his polar opposite. How can two people, so similar, be so different? If no one could get into L's thoughts and understand his way of thinking, then what made them think they could do the same with B? No one knew B's train of thought. No one understood his motives, but trusted him all the same. B could manipulate so easily...

"If the original is destroyed, then the copy will no longer be the copy, but only the original. There is only one solution..."

B could tell others what to do without them doubting him. B could express his thoughts on a matter and everyone would agree. Just like they would do if L was there. L was the original. B was the copy. If L was destroyed then B would no longer be considered the copy, but the original. B often thought this was how it was. He thought the the purpose of his life was to be like the super-genius, but B did not want to be like him, he wanted to be him. B wanted to stand as the original and manipulate the world around him without any question.

"L must be destroyed."
