Welcome to Ships of Valhalla! This will be one of the few fanfictions of AzurLane or battleship girls the other one being KanColle or Kantai Collection. But I hope to make this relatable as possible. If anyone from my other stories came to read this, be ready for this. Because I'm throwing all the stops for my stories. So here's the first chapter of this brand new story! The fanart came from Bilan Hangxian from ZeroChan!
Meeting Laffey
"One dozen spring rolls and a cup of white rice." Lance said in Japanese shopping in a market place at night.
"That will be 680 yen, sir." the male vender asked.
"Here you go." Lance said before giving the exact amount to the man.
"You're Japanese is very good, you know that?" the male vender said handing him the bag of Lance's food. "What are you? A tourist?"
"Was it that obvious..." Lance sweatdropped as the man looked at him dumbfounded.
"It's obviously you aren't from here."
"Oh, right. I'm a transfer student from America. I'm studying abroad with some other students here. I've managed to practice my Japanese really well during that time."
"I see. Well enjoy your time here, then." the vender said with a smile as Lance walked away. "I wish you the best of luck."
"Thank you, sir!" Lance said back as he went back the way he came back where he came from. Walking back to his apartment was Lance, a yellow-haired man with green eyes.
"Come on, idiot! Remember where we came from." He yelled at himself mentally as he bumped into a man.
"Sorry." Lance apologized as he went on his way. "Which way is my apartment?" he thought as his stomach started to rumble as he rubbed it nervously.
"I already don't like Nagasaki...damn it." Lance murdered himself annoyed watching as the sky grew more darker. "No way I'm not going to find my way back." A moment later, he came by one of the main exits.
"Found it." he smiled to himself as he got out of the busy marketplace before sitting at a bench taking out his phone. "No texts from mom. Or dad for that matter. I really am alone here in Japan. I wonder what fun things, I could get here." Lance got off the bench before heading his way then bumping into a cloaked figure.
"Watch where you are going." a feminine voice warned in Japanese. Lance could see blue pale eyes and a sinister glare look back.
"Right, I'm sorry I bumped into you. It's just that I'm new here." Lance said nervously in Japanese as well.
"Hmm...so am I. Can't say that I have experienced Japan's culture like this." she said eyeing Lance suspiciously.
"You're from America as well?" Lance said hoping to have someone that has something in common with him.
"Idiot! Not everyone who comes to visit Japan is from America!" she said in disgust. "No, I come from Europe!" She shunned as she turned away twirling her head as Lance saw blonde locks.
"She does seem to fit the American stereotype very well." Lance said annoyed
Walking more further, he can see the beautiful bright lights of all kinds low and high surrounding him and the other people who walked around him. A few minutes later, he came across the street of a less-cleaner cleaner section where there was almost no one walking.
"This reminds me a lot of back home in LA. But there's alot more people outside than at night, probably because there is less crime here.. Atleast, now I won't have to worry about competition too." Lance thought as he heard a soft snore from a heap of trash.
"What was that? A homeless?" he thought as he walked away before seeing steam rise from the garbage bags. "Something's burning." Lance went closer to take another look to see a young girl resting wearing a pink sweater and short skirt.
"A young girl?! Why the hell would a person leave their kid outside in the dark? " he shouted surprised before getting closer seeing burns and some blood covering her forehead. "Holy shit! She's been attacked!"
"Hey, can you hear me?" Lance asked desperately as he started to shake her body as she left no response. "Are you awake?" Still nothing happened.
"Crap." Lance cursed as he looked at her body. "Other than some burns and bleeding, she looks fine. Maybe I could take her to the hospital. There's nothing else I can do, but where's the closest hospital he-?" His thoughts were disturbed when her arm started to move tightening on Lance's wrist.
"Guadalcanal...no. Laffey cannot lose." the young girl muttered silently under her breath as she lessened her breath on Lance's wrist before her body started to lean to fall. Lance quickly picked her up with both his arms.
"She's really light." Lance noticed. "I know I have medical supplies at home...maybe I can take her there. Tomorrow I'll take her when it's more brighter to the hospital." He took her in a more comfortable position before jogging back to his apartment with the only sound was his and her heartbeats.
"Everything will be fine. Just ne-" Lance said to himself as he saw the two story apartment he was staying in was silent but for a girl his age holding onto some groceries looking at the two in shock.
"It's not how it looks. I just found her ou-" Lance said in Japanese red-faced as the girl screamed and ran into a open door before shutting it. "Oh...no!" He ran towards her door before talking.
"Hey if you're listening. Don't call the cops! I found her fainted in the streets, I'm jus-um, going to patch her up." he admitted as he listened for a response. There was no sound coming from inside but some shuffling.
"I can't wait for a response. I still need to take care of her." Lance thought as he went upstairs to his apartment before opening it. He quickly rested the young girl into the couch and turned on the lights.
"I'm going to need alcohol, bandages, and gauze." Lance said as he ran to a cabinet before grabbing the things then coming back. "Sorry, this is going to hurt." He poured some alcohol into a cloth before dabbing it on a wound on her head. As he did, he saw some of the girl's wound start to heal mending together.
"What the hell is going on?" Lance said as shook his head. "I must be really panicked to think she is regenerating so quickly. Eventually he finished mending all the girl's wounds as she slept peacefully on his couch as Lance nervously looked at her.
""I'll guess I'll eat." he thought as he looked into the bag he was carrying with spring rolls and rice. After sometime of finishing, he came back to still see the young girl still passed out.
"What should I do now?" Lance thought as he grabbed a blanket before placing it over her body. "She seems peaceful...hmm I never seen that kind of white hair anywhere. Must be pretty rare to find a person like that. I thought you only get that when you are old." He yawned before grabbing a blanket for himself as he sat in a chair.
"Guess I'll sleep here, as well." Lance said passing out.
...
The next day...
"Commander...are you awake?" a young girl's voice asked in English in front of Lance's face. She then decided to go on top of his chest as he started to open his eyes. "Is the battle over? Did Laffey and her sisters win?"
"Huh!?" Lance exclaimed in English shocked as he got away from the white-haired girl who had a confused look on her face. "What are you talking about!? And you speak English!? And who the hell are you?"
"Benson-class destroyer Laffey, awaiting orders… These ears aren't real, so please stop staring at them so much…" the girl saluted monotonously. "And commander, you must not ask Laffey too much questions. She gets very overwhelmed."
"Huh...I didn't even notice the bunny ears. Guess I was really overwhelmed. But is something wrong with her." Lance thought before standing up. "So you came from the U.S. I'm guessing?" He asked scratching his head before Laffy nodded.
"And Laffey can confirm you are American as well. You have taken good care of Laffey and she will be in your debt." the young girl said stoic as ever as Lance's mouth gaped.
"What hell are you talking about?! You don't own me anything for a damn patch-up. Anyways, do you have any relatives that are here in Nagasaki that we can contact?"
"Nagasaki!?" she exclaimed as she brought out what seems to be like two missile turrets with two machine gun turrets from her back pointing them defensively. "We are at the enemy's doorstep!"
"What the hell are those?!" Lance demanded to know shocked. "Are those navy guns?! How did they get equipped to your body?!"
"Laffey is a Benson-class destroyer." she said in a monotone way.
"That doesn't answer anything!" Lance shouted in frustration. "There's no such thing as a girl that is a warship! That's completely absurd!"
"Does the commander want to see Laffey's weaponry?" Laffey asked tilting her head before moving one of her machine guns for Lance to touch. He was hesitant at first before slowly analyzing it then touching the metal of the barrel.
"How?" Lance asked very shocked. "Are you some machine-human hybrid?"
"Laffey is a U.S. destroyer, that is all." Laffey said in the same expression.
"A U.S. destroyer? So what, the government decided to make naval weapons in the form of little girls?" Lance asked himself. "That doesn't make any sense." He said shaking his head in confusion.
"But-" Laffey tried to say before Lance ran to grab something from his room.
"Hold on...this will solve our questions!" he came out with a laptop before dusting it off as Laffey came to see it. "Just as long as we have internet." The laptop started to turn on before a search engine called GoSearch came up.
"What is your name again?" Lance repeated hands already on the letter keys.
"Benson-class destroyer - Laffey, Hull Number DD-459." she said pressing her face close to the laptop looking at it with wide eyes as she put her weapons away.
"Commander...what does a laptop do?" Laffey asked.
"Call me Lance... A laptop is a computer that can be used for a field of reasons such as knowledge from books and to play games." Lance said typing what Laffey told him.
"Ah, there's about 10 wiki articles about it." he revealed pressing a link to one. "The USS Laffey is a name for a U.S. warship during WW2!? But that was over a half a century ago!"
"Half a century ago..." Laffey said surprised. "Then why is Laffey still her-"
"Also, the warship got blown up at the Battle of Guadacanal. Don't tell me you are the warship itself..." Lance said more shocked.
"Laffey...died?" Laffey whispered as tears grew on her face. "Then how...did Laffey get here?"
"I don't know but if it's consolation to you, the Allies won the War and Japan is now friends with the U.S...sort of." Lance said patting her head before turning his head to the other direction with his face all red embarrassed. "I can't believe I'm consoling a warship..."
"It's alright commander. Now Laffey will live with you...until she pays back her debt." Laffey said hugging Lance's torso.
"My name is Lance Princeton! Use it, for God's sake." Lance scolded annoyed. "So you don't have anywhere to go?"
"Laffey doesn't know...but the commander will decide what is best for Laffey." the white girl said looking at Lance with hopeful eyes.
"This is jailbait!" he thought. "Fine, I guess you're staying with me for the meanwhile until I figure out something. Don't you have any allies that were with you?"
"...Laffey is now checking previous databases for information..." she said as cryptic blue text came over her eyes for a few seconds before she stopped. "Laffey was with many more warships during the the Battle of Guadalcanal. She can count more than 20 ships with her. But Laffey is unsure if they are here."
"Hmm...then I guess you're stuck with me in Japan. But I'm finding out more information about this." Lance said lifting his laptop before Laffey slept on top of him on his lap. "Hey,what's going on?!"
"Laffey will nap until she is back in commission again." Laffey said opening one eye. "Commander...will now watch over Laffey today." she then closed it before napping completely.
"This girl!" Lance thought tensing up before relaxing. "For now, at least I'll rest before I start classes here." He then closed his eyes as he slept on the couch with Laffey already doing the same.
Expect many interesting developments to happen over the course of this series. Basically what I want to accomplish is a set of Laffey and Lance going into other worlds to achieve a dream if you read my Ships of Vahalla: AOT for. But this one comes before that one, so read this one for a whole AzurLane story. I'll work on the four I have now until I'm done. A lot more hope is in my eyes so don't worry. I'll see you in the next chapters!
