A Short Prelude
It was mid-winter, the wind was howling, and a newborn was sound asleep inside the rural warehouse. The doors of the room were locked and three people were huddled around the newborn child. Two men and a woman. The two men were sitting on either side of a bed, in which the sweaty exhausted woman was lying. The woman held her child. In her eyes mixed emotions were visible. Confusion. Regret. Compassion.
"Finally," the, clearly higher ranking, man said, "one strong enough to lead Hydra! He will usher Hydra…"
"She." The other man said quietly. He was dressed in a lab coat and seemed to be intimidated by the presence of the other man.
"What?"
"SHE. It's a girl." The first man was still staring of the second in disbelief.
"How is that possible? Dr. Lehrer, there had better be a reason for me to spare both you and the child. You were put in charge of this project for a reason. I thought you could do it. Create a clone of the Winter Soldier."
The man, Dr. Lehrer, fidgeted and cast his eyes toward the ground. "I'm sorry, Sir. Our cloning tech isn't perfect yet…"
"Give me a reason. Just one reason why shouldn't scrap you and the project and start over," the officer sneered.
"Excuse me, Sir," the woman muttered.
Both men turned to look at the woman. The infant had wrapped her hand around her mother's finger. All their attention was diverted to that small fragile looking hand. It was cutting off circulation to the tip of the woman's finger. A sign of the super-soldier strength she would grow to harness.
"Be grateful she inherited that," the officer said, "now, raise her to lead our armies into a new golden age. Don't mess it up. Project CHILD OF WINTER needs to be a success the future of Hydra rests in her hands."
This is just a short little tidbit of a story I'm working on. I know its short (think of it as a free sample) I will likely write more. Tell me if I should post as I write new content for this story.
