Drake Parker was the epitome of cool.

He had everything. He always got all the girls, was always invited to all the cool parties, had the coolest friends, had the best luck, and had the most handsome features. As a bonus, he was also born with a major talent for music. He even eventually became famous for it.

However, without his coolness, he would have nothing. The only reason he had it all was because he was so cool.

If he weren't cool, there would be nothing in his life. No girls would be interested in him. No cool guys would invite him to hang out with them. Nothing would make his life meaningful. True, he would still be good-looking, and still have his musical talent, but that wouldn't be enough.

He needed coolness. Without it, his life would've been nothing. He would've been nothing.

Then he became Josh Nichols's stepbrother.

Drake was not happy about this. Josh was the opposite of cool. He always listened to his parents and teachers, always did his homework and chores whenever asked to, was very dorky and goofy, and did very well in school. Plus, he had lots of weird body malfunctions, and wasn't exactly that good-looking.

Drake knew one thing: Hanging out with that goof would totally ruin his reputation. It would make him less cool. And he couldn't let that happen. If he lost his coolness, then his life would be empty.

So at first, Drake tried to avoid Josh at school and in other public places as well. He would do anything to protect his reputation, even if it meant avoiding his stepbrother.

But at home, Drake started to get to know Josh more, now that he was living with him. He couldn't believe he would ever think this, but it turned out Josh wasn't…so bad after all. He was actually kind and caring. Even though he wasn't the coolest, Drake decided that he was somewhat acceptable.

And after getting to know him a little, Drake decided to start hanging out in public with Josh. He regretted doing this, since it could cost him his popularity. But Josh was a nice guy, and that was something good, right?

As time passed by, now that he was hanging out more with Josh, Drake actually started to like him. Months ago, he would've never been able to believe that someone so cool like him would like someone so goofy like Josh. But strangely, now he didn't mind it so much. In fact, he was actually having fun being Josh's brother. Whether it was getting mixed up in wacky situations, or just simply hanging out together, Drake liked being with Josh, and didn't mind so much that he was dorky.

And eventually, much to his surprise, Drake came to love Josh. As a brother, and as a best friend. They both shared many adventures, always hung out together, and had lots of fun. They'd been through many tough times, but also had lots of joyful moments.

Drake soon came to realize that Josh was the only true friend of his. The only friend who he really enjoyed being with, the only friend he deeply cared about. He realized he'd had more fun with Josh than with any of his other friends, most of whom weren't his real friends, now that he thought about it. Most of his friends were cool guys, and they only liked Drake because he was cool, and the popular guys and girls always hung out with anyone who was deemed cool.

But Josh, he didn't care if Drake was cool or not. He loved Drake for Drake, not for his coolness. And after he gave Josh a chance, Drake ended up loving him back. He didn't care if Josh was uncool. He loved Josh for Josh.

Drake Parker is still the epitome of cool. He still needs to be cool, because it'll get him a lot in his life.

But now that he thinks about it, even if he were to lose his coolness, his life wouldn't be completely meaningless.

He would still have his best friend, Josh Nichols.
