Lily looked down at her crimson colored hands, wanting more than anything to scream at the top of her lungs to match the pain she was in, but unable to utter a sound.
Where was James? Was all she could think.
The monster would be back soon, she knew it. He had tortured her to the point of death, and then he had left her so she would feel the full extent of the pain he'd caused her. He would be back to finish her off.
She had to find James before he returned.
Lily tried to stand, but the excruciating pain from her legs wouldn't permit her. She looked back to see her leg twisted into an unnatural shape, and that her alkalis heel had been cut.
I have to find James. Was her only thought.
Dragging her broken leg behind her Lily began to slowly crawl up the stairs, one by one, feeling the searing pain in her ribs made by each little movement. She could hear a baby crying, her baby, and that pushed her further.
Finally, she reached the top of the stairs. Gripping onto the banister she pulled her now useless body towards the room she shared with James.
James! She tried to call out, but the burning in her throat made it only come out as a croak. With her good arm she held the door frame and with one finally pull, dragged her beaten body forward so she could see into the room.
Lying on the floor was her husband, eyes wide, staring at the ceiling, lifeless. As she looked upon his glassy gaze the scream she'd been holding back broke through, reeking of anguish. Lily crawled forward to him, not feeling any pain except that of the one burning through her chest. She collapsed onto her husband and began to sob.
"James, oh James! Why?!"
Suddenly she was jolted back to reality as she felt a tiny tug on her arm. Turning around as best she could she saw two giant, teary, green eyes staring back at her.
"Harry" she choked, as she pulled her only child into a tight embrace.
