The stone was cold as she knew it would be; it always was. It had been every other time she'd come here to wait. She fingered a snag in her purple wool stockings and worried it absentmindedly. Would she see him tonight? Would he see her? And so what if he did? Part of her wanted to get caught. Yearned for it.
She leaned back against the wall, resting her head on the metal thigh of the suit of armor. My savior. She patted the plated foot affectionately.
"You've done me well the past few years," she whispered. "Thank you for hiding me so well. I think, though, this may be our last meeting. At least, the Nargles have been indicating that it should be."
Something stirred at the end of the dark corridor. She watched intently as he silently slunk towards her. She eyed the light shining off his greasy hair and thought about how it would feel between her fingers. And, oh!, how she'd love to kiss that scowl and bring happiness to his world. She wanted him to feel like he wasn't one of the most hated at Hogwarts. If only she'd muster up the courage...
The light waned as he passed by, continuing around the corner, out of sight. She gave the knight's foot one last rub. For good luck. Silently, she crawled out of her refuge and fumbled for her wand.
"Lumos," she whispered. A faint glow resonated from the tip. A cat began to purr at her feet.
"Good evening, Mrs. Norris." Leaning over to pet her, Luna said, "let's go find your daddy."
