Dean was drowning. The water filled his lungs, cold as ice, burning like acid. Just inches out of his reach he could see the child, frightened eyes turned up toward him as the ghost dragged him down into the water.
Lucas.
He jerked awake and found himself staring into another set of frightened eyes.
Sam. Sitting on the edge of Dean's bed, hands on Dean's shoulders trying to wake him.
"Geez, man, I thought the nightmares were my schtick." Sam joked, but he couldn't seem to muster up a laugh.
Dean wondered when he'd stop dreaming he'd failed young Lucas.
