Smiley Forever here with yet another RA fanfic. I hope you guys enjoy it. :D
Prologue:
No one expected a woman of Lady Pauline's age to be able to bare a child. Including the Lady herself. When she passed one of her monthly bleedings, she assumed it was a sign of - as people call it - becoming of middle age, and she gracefully accepted it. Though it nagged her that she wouldn't be able to have children like she had wanted because Halt took so long to propose.
It was a few weeks after not having her womanly bleeding that she began to have morning sickness and became sick to the stomach at the sight of some of her favorite dishes. Then her mood shift from happy to sad; joyful to furious; cheerful to unbearable.
It worried Halt that Pauline wasn't acting like herself as she would laugh at something he said, then snapped about how ignorant he was, and then cry about how she was a trouble wife and that he didn't deserve her. (Halt made the mistake of joking about how true that was only to be silenced by glaring eyes).
He wondered if it was some kind of illnes and hoped it would pass quickly so he wouldn't have to sleep on the damn couch anymore.
Weeks later, Lady Pauline began to worry. More and more often she would craved coffee. Halt would nod in approval as he watched her sip her coffee. "Finally," he would say. "you've developed fine taste in drinks."
The always graceful lady found it harder and harder to fit into some of her elegant dresses. That was when she finally decided to visit a healer. She expected to be told that she was ill and needed to be in bed rest for a few days, but it was worst, much much worst.
Of course she told Halt right away. She knew she wouldn't be able to hide it. She took his hand in hers and as he sipped his coffee that evening, told him gently what the healer said. Stunned, he nearly choked on his coffee.
For the love of coffee, please review!
