Barbara was reading a book minding her own business when her cell phone rang out on the coffee table. With a sigh she reached for her phone and answered it.
"Hello," she answered.
"Miss Barbara, do you know where Master Richard is? I cannot get ahold of him," Alfred's voice came out on the other side of the line.
"No, but I can pass a message to him."
"That won't be necessary, but thank you Miss Barbara."
"Alfred, you wouldn't go to this length to get ahold of him for nothing, so what is it?"
"Miss Barbara this doesn't concern you-"
"Alfred, you called me so it does concern me and on top of that since it is so important it does concern me. So spill."
"Master Jason is..."
"Jason is what?"
"Master Jason is gone," Alfred's words made Barbara freeze. "The Joker planted a bomb and he threw himself over it to spare his mother. Neither made it."
After a moment Barbara regained her thoughts enough to tell Alfred that she would 'pass the message on' and hung up the phone. She squeezed her eyes shut willing the tears not to fall, but to no avail. Barbara sat there drowning in Alfred's words. 'Jason is gone... The Joker... bomb... his mother... Neither made it.'
"DICK!" Barbara yelled not caring that the other teammates were in the cave as well. Getting up off the recliner, she ran down the hallway to his room, her cries growing more desperate each time. Tears were violently flowing down her face as she flung open his door to find him not there.
She then ran down to the gym and screamed Dick's name again once she was at the doorway. Connor, the only one in the room besides Barbara, looked up at her from his punching bag.
"Barbara, what's wrong?" Connor gently asked as he slowly walked up to her.
"I need to find Dick. I need to find him right now," she told him through her sobs. Connor laid a hand on her should in a way to try to calm her down, but she flung his arm away from herself.
"Where is he?!" Barbara screamed hysterically. She had now attracted some of her teammates attention.
"Barbara, take a deep breath. You need to calm down," Wally told her slowly and comfortingly.
"Don't tell me to calm down, Wallace Rudolf West," Barbara seethed. "Unless you know where Dick is," she added.
"I don't know where he is," Wally replied in a small voice. "Now tell us what's wrong," he continued a little louder. All he got in reply was Barbara pushing past him and the rest of the team determined to find Dick.
"Barbara," Wally yelled after her. "BARBARA!"
Barbara walked out onto the beach and almost instantly spotted Dick.
"Dick!" She shouted as she ran towards him. Dick turned around to see Barbara sobbing and running towards him. She ran into his arms and started crying even harder, if that was even possible. Dick was caught off gaurd, but atomatically hugged her back while running comforting circles on her back.
"Barbara, what's wrong?" Dick asked quietly almost drowned out by her sobs.
"It's Jason, Dick. It's Jason," she whispered back as she quieted her crying. She felt him go rigid in panic.
"What... what happened to Jason?" Dick asked hesitantly as if he was contimplating if he wanted to know or not.
"He's gone. Jason is gone and he's not coming back. He died in an explosion. He tried to save his mother," Barbara explained. "Dick," Barbara looked at him. "Dick, it was the Joker."
"The Joker is a dead man," Dick said his voice catching on the on coming sobs.
"I know, Dick. I know," Barbara told him as her shoulder became wet from Dick's tears.
