Flight 29 Down - Not This Year

(Jackson is NOT singing)

They had been on the island for six months, and tomorrow was Christmas. Even Taylor hadn't been complaining as much as usual. The only one who didn't seem to be excited was Jackson, and only Melissa had noticed.

He'd revealed his guitar secret on Thanksgiving.

This Christmas card is so contrived,

A mannequin looks more alive,

Haven't meant a word I've written here,

The page is full, not one thing sincere,

Melissa was walking by the fire when she saw him sitting playing on his guitar mopily.

I can't, I can't,

I can't, I can't take it,

This is the time to smile,

I can't fake it,

Please allow me the chance now,

To break it down,

She sat down next to him, and he stopped playing.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"Nothing." He replied.

"I know you better than that by now, something's wrong, and you can't deny it!" She raised her eyebrows.

It's not snow, it's rain coming down,

And the lights are cool,

But they burn out,

And I can't pull off the cheer,

Not this year,

Not this year,

Not this year.

"My mom died a couple years ago on Christmas Eve." He blinked back tears.

When I look in the mirror,

No happiness is present here,

Not supposed to whine,

Not supposed to cry,

Try to hold it in, but not this time,

Melissa hugged him. "It's okay to cry."

The tears began to fall.

I can't, I can't,

I can't, I can't take it,

This is the time to smile,

I can't fake it,

Please allow me the chance now,

To break it down,

"You can't imagine how hard it was." Jackson said.

"Yes, I can." Melissa replied.

It's not snow, it's rain coming down,

And the lights are cool,

But they burn out,

And I can't pull off the cheer,

Not this year,

Not this year,

Not this year.

"My grandma died on Christmas when I was five." She began to cry too.

Don't know, don't know,

If you can hear me,

I will, I will,

Speak louder for you,

No more whispering,

Are you listening,

I am pleading,

I am pleading,

It began to rain, and they ran for the tents.

I can't, I can't,

I can't, I can't take it,

This is the time to smile,

I can't fake it,

Please allow me the chance now,

To break it down,

Everyone else came in soon too.

"Are you crying?" Taylor said.

It's not snow, it's rain coming down,

And the lights are cool,

But they burn out,

And I can't pull off the cheer,

Not this year,

Not this year,

Not this year,

I can't, I can't,

Melissa glanced at Jackson, and his face seemed to be pleading her to keep it a secret.

"No." She shook her head.

It's not snow, it's rain coming down,

And the lights are cool,

But they burn out,

And I can't pull off the cheer,

Not this year,

Not this year,

Not this year,

Not this year.

A/N: Kinda lame, but this is SUCH an awesome song, and I had the idea and all, so I just had to write it! This song can be heard on Aly and AJ's Christmas CD, Acoustic Hearts of Winter, I totally recommend it! Just so you know, it's kind of religious based. Anyways, reviews always make us writers happy! (You know it's true!)
