Setting: Harry, Hermione and Ron are in their first year at Hogwarts. It is the morning, after the miserable night, when they had to let Norbert go; and when Draco, Harry, Hermione and Neville had been caught out of bed. Now Ron is demanding Hermione an explanation of what exactly happened for Harry doesn't want to speak too much about it.

Know-it-alls without an answer

Hermione and Ron were sitting in a quiet common room. Harry had gone off to somewhere unknown and most of the Gryffindors were still at breakfast or had class.

'Well, go on, tell me now,' Ron said.

'Tell you what?' Hermione asked looking up from her book.

'Tell me what exactly happened last night,' Ron demanded.

'Harry told you already,' Hermione replied turning back to her book.

'No, he didn't. What happened when you were in McGonagall's office?' Ron tried again.

'Fine, I'll tell you,' Hermione said a bit annoyed while she closed her book and put it away. 'Filch caught us, and brought us to McGonagall's office. There we sat waiting for her, when she turned up with Neville, who had been tricked again by Malfoy. McGonagall looked murderous and then asked us to explain ourselves.'

Hermione fell silent, as Ron waited eagerly for her to go on.

'So what did you say? I mean you are still here and home, so I bet you didn't tell her about Norbert,' Ron guessed.

'I – I said nothing. I was kind of lost for words,' Hermione said doubtfully.

Silence fell between them again.

'You failed to give a teacher an answer?' Ron unbelievingly replied.

'Yes.'

'You got to be kidding,' Ron snorted.

'No, I was not,' Hermione said indignantly.

'A know-it-all without an answer?' Ron asked again sceptically.

'Anyway, McGonagall thought we had simply made up the story, to get Malfoy out of bed and into trouble. She thought we might find that funny,' Hermione ended ironically ignoring Ron's last question.

'Awesome,' was the only thing Ron could still say.
