Teddy Remus Lupin,

I hope you will never need to read this, but something tells me I need to write it. There are things you need to know, and things I need to say.

And this might be my last chance.

No matter what you hear, I love you. Never doubt that son. I always only wanted what was best for you, to protect you. And that's not always easy to decipher. I never tried to run from you, just for you. And your picture was always in my breast pocket. I'm proud that I'm your father, proud to have you for a son.

There are so many people, who never got to meet you, that love you. Trust me. Some of the best people, my best friends. My family. Be sure to ask your godfather Harry (Merlin willing you'll be able to ask him, that everything goes well and he's allowed his life) to tell you all about James, Lily and Sirius. And about the adventures of Moony, Padfoot, Prongs and Wormtail. You'll need to know everything. Everything. Though you'll have to wait until you're older for some of those stories. Don't want to be giving you any ideas.

And when you're much older, and able to understand, there will be a trunk waiting for you at Bill and Fleur Weasley's cottage. It has all the things in it that I can't fit onto parchment. The things I want you to know. The things I wouldn't hide from you. I only wish I could be there to answer your questions. (Remember that I loved you, no matter what else you learn.)

Please be careful with the letters signed Padfoot and Sirius Black – those aren't just my memories tucked away in that box. It's a whole life. It's lifetimes. It's…it's been everything.

There are so many things I want to be able to explain to you.

I fought in the first war for the sons of my friends. This one I fight for you – along with everyone else. Along side everyone else. We fight for a better future, a future at all. I just hope, beyond everything else, that you grow to be happy and strong. And loved. I hope you grow to know all the love that is out there. That you learn the joy of having someone love you. That you learn hoe to let someone love you, without wasting it.

I wish I could share some profound advice with you, leave some wise parting words that you can carry with you always. But anything I say won't be mine; it'll be the borrowed words from someone else's lips. The brighter thoughts of brighter men. And I'll surpress my urge to quote Muggle songs to you from before you were born.

I love you.

All my best to you son,
Remus John Lupin
