A Basket of Rice Balls
1. Paradise

The cold spread past his toes.

He stole them in,
hugged them close,
Wished a pair of gloves
of coarse-wove cloth

Instead of softer arms
to hold him
in a warm embrace

Because the place his God
had given
could only fit one other

And it was he
who had left the cold.
