Checkmate

(Through the Looking Glass)

She was just a little pawn
on a big big board

Drowned
on those many checkered squares
that caged her in

And the Cheshire Cat was not around
to point her any way

But there was still
an Endgame
to approach
and a stage to climb upon…

After all, it was only the pawn
who could then
succeed the throne.
