Chapter 1

So I deceded to redo my Mo'e in Genshiken story. I think this version will be a lot better in my opinion. The old story was something I had done out of boredom and it was when I first started doing Fanfictions. Now I'm a bit better at story telling, and created better characters. So Mo'e will be a little different from the one my old readers knew. The more noteable difference being she's american. Not really a spoiler as I will be noting that in the first chapter. Now ONWARD TO THE BATTLE FIELD!

Transfering to a new college was pretty tough all things considered, however transfering to a new collegue in a whole other country was even tougher. Yet, here Moe was ditermined to make her new life in Japan one of greatness! She had moved there for, of course school, and because Japan had always been the place she'd wanted to live ever since her gradeschool had started a penpale project. She had gotten lucky and met someone from japan, and thus her otaku life had begun. Ever since then she developed a love for anime, manga, visual novels, cosplay and j-music.

Learning the language had been tricky, but with her penpale friend she had it down by the time she was in high school. So it was not as though she had jumped in blindly, she knew the written language and was pretty fluent in speaking it, though she had trouble with certain words.

Mo'e smiled as to herself as she ignored the staring eyes of those around her. Moe was of short stature with a natural young looking face, ontop of that because of her love of anime she had developed a slight obsession for the japanese street fashion Gothic Lolita. For her first day of attending school she had choesn a casual white and black frilled cat eared hoodie, a blonde ringlet wig, black loli-bloomer shorts overtop black and white stripped leggings and mary-jane heels. Back home she was quite used to people staring at her, since she looked mch younger than she actually was. So she just smiled and ignored the whisperes of people questioning why a middle schooler was on campus.

After a while of walking through campus she came upon a bulliten board, on it she saw many club postered posted. The description of one caught her lavender colored eye; Genshiken, dedicated to the study of visual modern arts. Sounded interesting enough, as well did so many other clubs such as the manga club and cosplay club. She reached into her bag and pulled out a piece of paper, taking down the club names and their location. Genshiken topping the list.

It took her longer than expected however she finally found the club room, tucked away in a rather dimly lit hallway. She would have missed it if not for the sign which read Genshiken. She paused, her hand on the door knob, she didn't fully understand why but she was suddenly over come with nervousness as a lump settled in her stomach. She swallowed thickly, and turned the door knob. The door opened to reveal three individuals sitting at a table. One who seemed to be a little on the heavy side sitting on the left, an average Joe looking man sitting on the right, and dead center at the head of the table sat a rather tall scrawny looking male with glasses. Moe froze upon seeing him.

"He...Hello..." She mumbled in English, her brain suddenly forgetting all the Japanese she'd learned over the years. The three men stared in confusion, neither of them understanding what she'd said.

"Nani?" one of them said. Moe cleared her throat as she stood up straight and suddenly used both hands to smack her cheeks, snapping her back to her senses. She then said in Japanese

"Hello, My name is Moe Philips." She said fluently bowing politely, "I was thinking of joining your club."

"You want to join Genshiken?" Asked the average joe looking man. Moe nodded placing her hands elegantly (as per the fashion style) in front of her. The heavier of the three then shifted in his seat.

"I...I d-didn't know...p-people actually...n-named their kids...m-moe." he stammered. Moe tilted her head to the side and smiled she opened up her mouth to speak when she felt the presence of someone behind her. She turned to see a woman with blonde hair with a cigarette in her mouth and a lighter in her hand. She looked down at Moe her face slowly turning from a look of confusion to a weird look of irritation.

"Who the hell is this kid?" She asked rather bluntly as she glared at the three and pointing to Moe, "And why is she dressed like that?"

"Why are you looking at us like we forced her into it Saki?" asked the tall scrawny man, standing with a slightly irritated look on his face. The woman, now known to Moe as Saki, glared.

"Don't give me that crap, you know exactly why I'm asking Madarame!" She shouted. Suddenly something in Moe's head clicked. Saki became silent as she watched the young girl walk towards Madarame and standing on the tiptoes of her mary-jane heels stared up at him intensely.

"Madarame?" She asked, "Y-your full name wouldn't happen to be Madarame Harunabo would it?"

Madarame stared a bit put off by the sudden question.

"You two know each other?" the Average Joe asked. Moe smiled and having her question confirmed nodded.

"Mada-chan, it's me Moe, from America!" she shouted excitedly. Madarame blinked, trying hard to remember anyone named Moe. Suddenly it came to him.

"Moe?! W-what are you doing here?!" he asked surprised to see her. Moe bent forward and winked.

"I moved her for school a year ago. Well I mean I moved to Tokyo a year ago. I just got my paper work done to attend school here, yesterday." She explained.

"So you two know each other?" Saki asked.

"Mhm, we used to be penpales when I was in grade school." Moe said. Madarame placed his hand on his chin.

"That's right," he confirmed, "I remember you having a really weird name."

"You couldn't pronounce it, or really spell it. That's why you shortened it to Moe." She giggled, "I've been going by Moe ever since then."

"Really?"

"Mhm."

"we kinda lost touch there for a while." Madarame said. Moe nodded, suddenly Saki spoke up.

"Uh hello! Did you two forget about the rest of us?" she growled. Madarame shrugged.

"Sorry." He said placing his hand on Moe's shoulder, "Moe, these are some of my club mates, Sasahra kanji, Mitsunori Kugayama, and to a lesser extent Saki."

As he introduced the others they each nodded respectively, save Saki who was mumbling under her breath over Madarame's comment. Moe beamed giddly.

"I've decided then!" she exclaimed, "I'm joining Genshiken!"

"But you've gotta be barely in middle school. There's no way you can join a college club." Saki said. Moe gave a sly smile as she stepped toward her.

"I understand why you'd think that," She said smoothly, then giggled standing up straight, "But I'm actually only a few years younger than Mada-chan. Fufufu."

"Wait what?!" was the response from not only Saki but the other two as well. Madarame remained silent, while Moe nodded, bringing her hands under her chin and interlacing them.

"That's correct." She said sweetly, "I have a naturally young look, kinda runs in the family. It also makes me the perfect candidate for Gothic lolita. As you can see."

"It certainly works for you." Saki mumbled. Moe nodded then spun on her heel to address Madarame.

"So can I join?" she asked.

"Wait, do you even know what this club does?" Saki asked, Moe turned her attention back to saki.

"The steady of modern visual culture." She said, repeating what she had read on their flyer. Saki cut her eyes.

"Do you even know what that means?"

"Well, were I to guess based on the state of the club room, I'd guess it's like a manga and anime club?" She asked placing her index finger on her chin while her free hand went behind her back. "Am I right?"

"Not really." Kanji replied.

"W-we also...t-talk about other th-things." Kugayama added.

"Like what?" Moe asked curiously. Madarame smirked and crossed his arms over his chest.

"We talking about things like the current state of manga, games, and what it means to be an Otaku." He said.

"Is that right? You mean kinda like a political debate about things like what tropes are being used? Like how a lot of anime and manga have been going for more of a ecchi theme these days?" Moe asked tilting her head to the side.

"Well. Yeah that too." Madarame said. Moe smiled.

"Sign me up!" she shouted raising her hand above her head. Saki slammed her hands onto the table.

"Hold up! Are you really ok with this? You'll be entering a club filled with sweaty guys and creep-o's." She said, "with the way you look they'll just keep staring at you like one of their perverted H-game characters. Doesn't that bother you?"

"That's not true Saki, take that back." Kanji said with a scowl. "Besides she won't be the only girl and you know that. There's also Ohno and Ogiue!"

"P-plus, th-there's you...saki...th-the unofficial member." Kugayama mumbled, Saki responded with a swift karate chop to Kugayama's head.

"I am not one of you, nor am I apart of this club!" She shrieked. Moe's eyes widened with surprise by the sudden spurt of violence on Saki's part.

"Is...he gonna be ok?" She mumbled to Madarame.

"This is actually just another normal day in the club." he said with an exhausted tone. Moe's brows rose in surprise as she looked back to Saki and Kugayama. She then crossed her arms and gave a pointed nod.

"This place seems like a lot of fun. Like something out of Haruhi." she said with a grin, then looked to Madarame, "And Mada-chan, we have a lot of catching up to do."

"Eh?"

"Well sure, it's been a year since we last spoke." Moe said with a pout, she then smiled and grabbed Madarame by the arm tugging him toward the door. "I'm gonna be stealing Mada-chan for a bit! See you tomorrow!"

without waiting for a response from the others Moe had managed to drag the lanky otaku out of the club room. Leaving the trio left behind in a silence. Saki let out an aggravated sigh; with Moe that meant the club wouldn't be anywhere close to being disbanded. Which meant she was still losing kousaka to Ganshiken. She narrowed her eyes.

"So, was I the only one who noticed that?" She then mumbled. Kanji and Kugayama looked to her.

"N-notice...what?" Kugayama asked, Kanji also looked to the none-otaku with confusion as she sat down.

"Oh never mind." She said waving her hand in front of her face, "I guess otaku wouldn't notice things like that."

So that's the first chapter of the new version of Moe in Genshiken. I hope all you old readers will be ok with my changes. Moe is still the same for the most part. I also hope you newbies will enjoy this as well. With the new changes it'll make the fanfiction a lot longer than the old one. Mostly because this is much more thought out and not just a newbie fanfictioner typing things out on the spot. (well sort of.) anyway see you next chapter. I'll be posting as often as I can, however since i'm borrowing this laptop it won;t be too often. However this will be the only fiction i'l be focusing on for a while. See ya!
