And will the past of her past self come back to haunt her?
Chapter 1
It was a little past nine in the morning when Rin and her fellow classmates poured out of the busses and onto the sidewalk. It directed them to the long row of steps leading up to the Higurashi Shrine Memorial. Next to the stairs a large burly sign read "Higurashi Shrine, May we always remember".
As they walked up to the building, they were greeted by the tour guide. The woman seemed pleasant, but it was also her job to be happy around customers. "Hello everyone! My name is Kazuko and I'll be showing you around the shrine today! Now everything was destroyed in the attack but we were able to recreate the grounds of the property. Follow me and I'll take you guys through the house first."
As the group started to walk, Rin and her friends stayed towards the back. Rin was the only one who was really interested in the tour. As the tour guide spoke she sounded like an actress giving a performance. Her lines were memorized and flowed perfectly, which made Rin even more interested. The house went quickly and had a vintage feel to it. There wasn't anything too special and you could tell people were getting antsy. What they all wanted to see was the shrine. When she finally stopped talking about the family that lived there, she finally announced that we were going to go outside and tour the grounds.
"47 years ago, to the day, several hundreds of demons escaped from the well hiding in that building. We aren't allowed to take you guys inside but this board is plastered with pictures we've taken from the inside." She jestgured to the pictures and the class gathered around them. Rin stayed behind to look at them later. "If guys will remember I said that everything you see now was recreated. Well the well actually is the original well. Never thought I would use well three times in one senetence." The group chuckled a little and she seemed please. "The well was actually undamanged by all the demons. After the attack people were afraid of it, some still are today. The well is compared to, by many, as a volcano. We're just waiting for it to blow up again. Fortunately, demons weren't the only thing to come out of the well that day."
"I'm sure you all have heard about the mysterious man who defeated all the demons. Our technology of guns and explosives had minimal affect on them, but this man seemed to posses the power neceassy to defeat them all, along with a friend. Kagome Higurashi, the young girl that grew up in that house right there." The tour guide pointed to the house ata window that could be easily seen from the well. "There are reports that she fought alongside the man with a bow and arrow. The mysterious man was said to be wielding a large sword. If you look at this board you'll see the few pictures we were able to verify." As everybody shifted to look at the other board Rin walked up the one with the pictures of the well. The building was plain but knowing that demons came through the well it was housing, gave Rin the shivers. The tour guide started to direct the group to another area, but Rin stayed behind to look at the other set of pictures.
On that board there were only a few pictures of a man with a large sword wearing a bright red outfit. His hair was long and silver and it looked as if he had dog ears on his head, but the pictures were blurry. It was as if they had to zoom in immensely to make out his figure.
They also had a few pictures of Kagome from when she was in school. Her uniform was white and green, but the one Rin was wearing today was white and blue. Kagome and the man mysteriously disappeared after the attack and Rin wondered if they went back into the well. Rin wondered what was on the other side. Was it another dimension, another world?
There were several theories of what happened that day and several directors have chosen to recreate their versions of that day. Many of them depicted the man to be very charming and heroic. Many girls, and Rin admittedly, had developed a crush on him. There isn't much that they knew about him but it made it easier to imagine him as your Mr. Right. Your hand went up to caress his hair gently when you felt something hard hit the back of your head.
Ow!" she exclaimed as she whipped her head around and rubbed the sore spot. She saw Cho, her best friend, waving vigorously at her. Rin saw her other friends sneak into the building where the well was and Cho started to follow them. Rin knew she shouldn't have separated from the group, but she really wanted to see the inside of the well. The wind started to howl at Rin's back and she shivered a little.
Kishiko and Kaoru, the other pair in the group, were already waiting inside. With the door closed it was really dark and creepy. A few steps lead down to the floor where the well was located. Rim had to wait a few minutes for her eyes to adjust to the lighting before venturing down.
"I don't understand why they left it up. I mean what if those youkai come back." Kishiko said. She fidled with her short blonde hair as she looked down the well.
"They tried to destroy it but the wood wouldn't break and whenever they filled it up with anything it would disappear the next day. So they decided to make some money off of it and turn it into a museum." Rin said. Her knowledge on the matter was extensive. She read that they tried to fill the well up with cement and build in to it but it was gone the next day. One day it was there and the next, it was gone. She saw Kaoru shudder and move back a few steps. This did not go unnoticed by Cho.
"Hey Kaoru, why don't you jump in it. See if you disappear too." Cho taunted.
"No thanks! Why don't you?" Kaoru spat back.
"Because I've done worse things than that." Cho said smirking.
Rin shook her head, "Cut it out, the both of you."
"Why don't you do it Rin? You love all of this crap." Kishiko inquired.
"Do you know how stupid that would be? If I got injured you would have to get help and we'd get in trouble." Rin said peering down the well. A little light flickered and Rin bent over the ledge to see what it was. Her toes were just barely touching the ground. She felt a shove on her back and lost her balance leaning forward and let out a little yelp before wiggling until her toes found the ground again. "That's not funny guys!" She looked around to see all of her friends laughing at her.
She turned back around to look at the well. Rin heard a voice call to her and a small breeze come out from the well. She felt her arms and legs move of their own accord, pushing her up onto the ledged.
There was something at the bottom of the well she was just drawn to. Her head felt a little dizzy. She usually wasn't this reckless but she felt something tugging at her. She needed to find something…or someone? Rin looked down the well again when the laughing ceased.
"Rin don't." she heard Cho say sternly behind her. The laughing stopped and the girls were watching Rin intently.
"It was a stupid joke we didn't mean it." Kaoru promised.
Rin's limbs felt heavy, as if something was dragging her down. She wanted to jump. She needed to find something, she needed to.
For a second she felt weightless, then gravity pulled her down the well into darkness.
A/N
So this is the third time I've tried to restart this story. I feel like I had a good story line going but I never had the talent or the stamina to keep it going. I've got my life (somewhat) in order and this story had been on my mind. I'm making several small changes to fix a few potholes and make the story flow better. I hope you guys like the revamped version of this story because I know I'm excited with the changes I've made.
Please Read and Review. I love hearing every bodies comments and constructive criticism is always welcome!
