This is based on party banter between Bethany and Varric, this normally triggers for me just when Varric has joined the party;

Bethany: You don't seem to like your brother very much...

Varric: And here I thought it took blood magic to read minds!

Bethany: I had a twin brother, Carver. He used to nail my braid to the bed while I was sleeping.

The batter goes on but while I lay in bed, thinking about Carver, this popped into my head. Adein is "my" Hawke, a Force Mage that romances Isabella. (Carver also joins the Wardens.)

The only light he had was a small sliver that came under the wooden doorway, but he knew his way around the room by heart. Carefully and quietly he pulled off his woolen covers and tip-toed his way to the bed that sat opposite his. Gently he pulled the long dark braid that sat on the pillow and moved it up to the bedhead, before;

Tap – Tap – Tap – Bang!

"Carver!"

Deep brown eyes shot open in alarm and Carver quickly darted back to his bed, a small smile on his face. His sister went to sit up, and yelled out as her hair pulled. She quickly touched her long braid and found a small nail in the band. He had nailed her hair to her bedhead.

"Carver! Get it out! Carver!"

She pulled again, and tears started to well in her eyes and almost in that instant, shadows started to move around the light from the door. Almost frantic, Carver pushed the hammer and the small amount of nails he had taken from the shelves in the sitting room in a place where no one would dare to reach, under his bed; and quickly clambered back in. The door opened slowly, and he braced himself for the face of his father, but instead he found the warm brown eyes of his older brother.

"Adein! It hurts!"

In one large stride Adein found his way to his litter sisters bed;

"Shh, Bethie – don't pull, you'll make it worse, ok?"

Those deep brown eyes scanned him for a moment, before Adein made his way over to his bed and knelt down; sliding his arm into the darkness under his bed; and he couldn't help but gasp. He noticed a small sparkle in those eyes for a moment, the kind where his big brother thought about playing one of his many jokes, but it died down just as quickly, and he gently pulled out the hammer. Without saying a word, Adein made his way back to Bethany, gently pulling the nail back and letting her hair fall back to its normal position.

"Go back to sleep you two, before you wake Father."

Bethany gave Carver a sour once the door was shut once more, before turning her back to him and pulling the covers tight. But instead of doing the same, he got out of bed once more, and pulled the door open; his eyes quickly catching his father asleep on the sofa, his long hair and beard out in messy places.

"Sigh... Carver."

Adein stood near the shelves, putting the hammer on one that he knew Carver couldn't reach.

"...You wont tell, will you?"

Adein smiled, his eyes getting smaller as he did so;

"I wont. Bethany might – but I wont... It was kind of funny."

Carver smiled, before getting his marching orders back to bed. His last thought crossing his mind was that, one day, he'd be even braver than his brother, that not only would he put his hand under the bed, but that he would beat the dark things that lived there.
