Ayame hunched over on the cool rock. How could this happen, she thought, her eyes blured with tears, I can't believe he doesn't remember. I've prepared my whole life for this, what am I supposed to do now.
"Ayame," said a voice, soft and tenative.
Ayame quickly rubbed the tears from her eyes and turned, "What?"
"I'm really sorry that's all I can say," Kagome said, sitting down next to her.
"How can he love you, and know that you are infatuated with that hanyou?" Ayame asked, tears streaming down her face again.
"Inuyasha?" Kagome said, her eyes filled with a deer caught in the headlights expression.
"Of course, anyone could see it," Ayame said, laughing bitterly, "Except maybe Kouga."
"I don't love Inuyasha," Kagome said, firmly, blushing.
"Yeah, whatever," Ayame said, dismissing the topic, "What am I supposed to do now? If I return without Kouga, I'll seem weak, something that a future leader doesn't want to do."
"Why don't you stay with us?" Kagome said, thinking about how peaceful things would be if Kouga was in a relationship.
Ayame was silent for a moment, her head was down and Kagome could only see her shaking. "Come on now, don't cry," Kagome said, patting her on the back. But after a moment, Kagome realized that Ayame was laughing. "I think that I would like to do that for a while," Ayame mused, "Kagome your a strong person, right?"
"I guess so, why?" Kagome asked, curiously.
"Because if Kouga sees how strong I am, then maybe he'll fall in love with me," She whispered to soft for Kagome to hear.
A/N: Ok...In case it isn't obvious, I don't really watch Inuyasha episodes alot. But I do love the Lunar Promise. So I felt that it was necessary to write this.
