A cry fic. Hold your tissues close to you if you cry easily. NOT A HAPPY FIC! Paramount owns all Star Trek. I'm just a poor fan fic writer who loves Enterprise.

Lieutenant Mirthe van Buren was working in the little corner of engineering where nobody rarely came. It was night on Enterprise and there weren't many people on duty. She was working on a realigning a power relays but she couldn't focus. Her vision was blurred from her tears and now she was just sitting against the wall, softly sobbing. Her heart was broken and she was psychically hurting. She was a mess but Mirthe didn't care. She hoped nobody would come and ask for her help, she just wanted to be left alone. Normally she loved being in charge of engineering (it just was cool!) but right now she wanted that Lt. Commander Anna Hess would show up from her late dinner break.

'Are you all right, lieutenant?' The voice of Commander T'Pol came from far away and Mirthe couldn't answer through the fog that was surrounding her. 'Lieutenant?'

'Yeah.' Whispered Mirthe and wiped away her tears, forcing herself up. She knew the Vulcan wouldn't buy it but she hoped that the commander wouldn't put her on report for sitting crying in Engineering. Two years ago, Mirthe knew the Vulcan lady wouldn't hesitate to do so. But the woman had changed.

'You appear to be in distress, can I be of assistance?' Asked T'Pol.

'I'm just… I'm sorry, I know I should be doing my work, please don't put me on report. It's just that I received a message from my family on Earth.' Said Mirthe, sobbing. 'My fiance was killed in an accident.'

T'Pol looked at the young woman who was in so much pain and she put her hand on the lieutenant's shoulder.

'I am sorry for your loss, lieutenant.' Whispered T'Pol, remembering in how much pain she had been when the same thing had happened to her. 'I understand what you are going through.'

Mirthe nodded, clasping the soft and warm hand of T'Pol. 'Thank you, commander.' She said gratefully. She looked at the Vulcan's face who had softened. T'Pol looked emotional.

'I just.. It just hurts so damn much. I don't know how I'm going to survive this, Dan was my everything and now he is just gone. He's never coming back.' Said Mirthe.

'You survive. When Trip died I felt the same way but you survive. It is difficult but it isn't impossible. You can grieve, but you have to get on with your life. And you will survive. You heal the broken parts and you heal. It is just a matter of time. One day you will, Mirthe.' Said T'Pol, fighting against the tears.

Mirthe smiled through her tears. She remembered the day Trip had died and how much T'Pol had cried. Mirthe remembered looking at how the always controlled woman who seemed so cold to anyone had sobbed next to Trip's body.

But here was T'Pol, years later and she had survived. She was still standing. And suddenly Mirthe knew that she was going to survive this.

It just was a matter of time.
