He arrived at my apartment promptly at seven o'clock. Dressed sharply in a Hugo Boss suit, he smiled in greeting, his dimples set deep on his face. "Hi," I greeted him breathlessly.
When he escorted me downstairs, I was surprised to find his limo parked at the curb. I don't know why I was surprised. Sonny Corinthos rarely traveled without it; nonetheless, I was.
We chatted as we drove to the restaurant. I don't remember what I said. Just the normal "getting to know you" conversations everyone partook of on a date. I was amazed at how relaxed I was. I wasn't nervous at all. I felt I was talking with an old friend. That's how Sonny made me feel. Looking at me with those beautiful chocolate brown eyes of his, I instantly felt comfortable.
By the time we arrived at the restaurant, we were completely at ease with each other. Sonny's driver, Max, opened the door for us. Sonny stepped out first then extended his hand to assist me.
As we walked into the restaurant, the maitre 'd showed us to our table. Sonny chose a wine for our meal...a burgundy something. I'm not the connoisseur that Sonny is, so I left that to his expertise.
The waiter came over and I glanced at the menu. The prices were high. I noticed the wine that Sonny had ordered was more than a week's of my teacher's salary. I ordered chicken marsala. I knew I'd probably regret that later, but right then, it sounded good.
Conversation was light and lively during dinner. I even got the usually tight-lipped Corinthos to reveal something about his past. We traded childhood stories, albeit his were not as happy as mine. I began to see another side to Sonny Corinthos. He wasn't the cold-hearted hood that the papers made him out to be. He was a man who was plagued by his past, who felt that he was destined to end up alone because of the life he chose.
After dinner was over, we turned to the band that had set up. It was a jazz trio. When Sonny asked me to dance, I was a little taken aback. I'm not generally known for my dancing, but Sonny insisted and I relented. As soon as I was in his arms, I felt the music take over. I had never felt that sensation before. When we moved, we moved perfectly in sync. I began to wonder if sex would be like this. Would we, could we?
I think Sonny felt the connection as well, because after the first dance, he smiled, his dimples set deep on his face. "We make a pretty good team."
We danced for the rest of the night, only taking a break when the band did. Finally, after midnight, we decided to call it a night. Sonny helped me with my coat and I took his arm as he escorted me out to the limo.
The drive to my apartment was quiet, as we both anticipated how it would end. Finally, Max pulled to the curb. "I got this one, Max," Sonny announced, as he opened the door and stepped out. He assisted my exit from the car and he walked me to my apartment door. I unlocked the door and turned to him, "thank you, Sonny, I had a wonderful evening."
"The pleasure was all mine," he whispered, as he moved closer to me. His face was inches from mine. He looked into my eyes as he leaned closer, pressing his lips against mine gently at first. His tongue darted out and my lips parted to grant entry. As he kissed me, his hands held my head. The kiss seemed to last forever and when it ended, my head was still swooning. My eyes opened and I saw him grinning at me. "We should do this again," he said, referring to the kiss and the date.
I smiled at him and said good night. I watched him walk down the hall back to his limo.
When I finally closed the door, I leaned my forehead against the cool surface and sighed. It had been a good first date. Even if I never saw Sonny Corinthos again, I would forever remember this night.
The End…for now.
