Of Ice Cream

"There are some things in life that I don't really know why I bothered with. Perhaps it felt right at the time, but once the moment is over, you get that shock. Like, 'what the hell have I gotten into?' Dug a hole, and fall in. Can't get out, because the hole is deep, never mind chakra. So then you sit in the hole, doom and gloom, wondering how your life has gotten so disarray."
Shikamaru sighed at his wife's rambling and poked at his lunch. He knew better than to interrupt her rant, and the bruise on his back still hadn't healed.
Damn wench.
"I went back to Suna in order to see Gaara again since he needed my assistance. Grueling mission, you know. And then I come back home, only to find that my no-good, shitty husband free-loading off of his mother rather than going to the market!" Temari slammed an impatient hand down on the table. "What do you have to say to that?"
Having received a day off, Shikamaru had full intentions of going to his cloud-gazing spot after his meal, but he knew he wouldn't be reuniting with his favorite place today. Not when his irritable wife fixed her icy glare onto him.
"Troublesome," He muttered, and flinched when Temari's glare deepened. He sighed and set down his chopsticks next to his half-eaten plate. "What do you want me to get?" She scowled.
"I'll kick your ass, lazy!" She snarled, pushing her chair back. She stood up cracked her knuckles. "I'll kick your ass!"
Shikamaru sighed again, and stood up as well. "Ice cream it is." He relented, shoving his calloused hands deep into his pocket.
"Mint chocolate chip and rainbow sherbert." She called after him, rubbing her swollen stomach.
Troublesome…

"What the hell," Temari said calmly, "Is this?
"Mint chocolate chip and sherbert, why?" Shikamaru asked, kicking off his sandals. He felt bloodlust radiating off of his wife, and couldn't help but quake a little inside.
"Yes, but what kind of sherbert?" She asked sweetly. A bit too sweet, Shikamaru concluded.
"…orange."
"I said I wanted rainbow." Deadly now.
"Did you?" Shikamaru blinked. "I must have misheard you."
"SO GO BACK AND BUY THE RIGHT ONE, LAZY ASS!" Temari threw a thick wad of cash at his stoic face.
Shikamaru did not know why he put up with her, or why he chose her to be his wife. Sure, she was tolerable most of the times, despite her troublesomeness and her scary persona, but he certainly did not like slaving away.
He sighed, and placed back the melting orange sherbert and skimmed the refrigerated coolers for the right one. Shoppers bustled around him, but he paid them no mind.
Finding the right tube of ice cream, he lugged it to the cashier and groped around his pocket for the money. He pulled it out, only to find a yellow post-it note taped neatly onto the rolled cash. It read:
Hey Lazy,
Thanks for running errands for me. I love you :) -Temari
Shikamaru couldn't stop the lazy smile that graced his features as he walked back home, content and at peace.
Quite pointless, but I had the urge :)
