This oneshot came to me when I was just looking for a new fic to read!

enjoy!

It was just kind of awkward to be anywhere near each other anymore. They'd both simply gone different ways after Sasuke had come back. They'd outgrown their childish rivalry, so, how were they supposed to act around each other, now?

After several months of avoiding each other Sakura had insisted on a 'team seven reunion'. And now, since Kakashi couldn't make it, Naruto and Sasuke were stuck sitting in Sakura's living room in awkward, uncomfortable silence.

Sakura, having muttered some sort of excuse which Naruto hadn't heard to go to the kitchen, had left them to themselves. Sasuke was looking tiredly out the window and Naruto stared into his cup.

Naruto didn't really know what to think of his former teammate anymore. Sasuke was still quiet and introverted. He was an ANBU now, but so was Naruto. All in all, Sasuke didn't have much of a personality. Naruto remembered when Sasuke and he were what most people would call friends. Sasuke would be at his house in the morning. They'd go train. They'd go out to the winner's choice of restaurant for dinner and Naruto would walk with Sasuke home before walking himself home. But this Sasuke…Just…didn't seem to have the same qualities the old Sasuke did.

Through his mental musings, Naruto had begun tapping on the rim of his glass with his fingernails. Sasuke's face had been screwed into one of angered annoyance. Finally, Sasuke turned to face the blond and slammed his hand down on the table.

"Would you just STOP THAT?!"

Whoa, okay, so he still had a bad temper. He hadn't changed THAT much. Naruto stared surprised at the brunette fingers poised in mid air for another tap.

"Um…yeah…okay, fine."

Sasuke visibly calmed. "Thank you"

Naruto looked away, rolling his eyes and muttering under his breath "…Freak".

A vein in Sasuke's head visibly twitched. "What was that, Dobe?"

"Only you would freak out about something as stupid as that, teme."

Naruto grinned internally. Maybe there was hope yet that the old Sasuke could still be hiding inside this new one. His smile, however, faded when instead of jumping up and challenging him, Sasuke simply cursed him under his breath and went back to looking out the window.

Now it was Naruto's turn to slam a fist onto the table. He stood up abruptly. "You know what, if you're just going to be a little bitch about this than screw it. I'm leaving!" He moved to walk away, but Sasuke's pale hand grabbed his arm.

"Wait. I'm sorry."

But Naruto just pulled out of his grasp and left.

That wasn't the Sasuke he knew. The Sasuke he knew was gone. The Sasuke he knew would never have been sorry for making him angry. The Sasuke he knew was dead.

Fin.

… w00t!
