The Melody

The scene was set,

The babe tucked in their beds,

The warm golden fire blooming,

A ghostly storm looming.

A shadow casted over a single house,

A widowed woman mourning her spouse,

A mystery lacking a solution,

A life infested with pollution.

The widow jumped at the sound of a single tap,

Scared that the child will wake from their nap,

She slowly arose from where she was seated,

To discover the cause of the rapping that repeated.

The door of her shelter soon came in sight,

But no man stood in the darkness people label night,

Tap tap tap it echoed through the walls,

It comforted her to believe it could be her husband's ghostly calls.

But as the night drew on the tap tap tap never ceased,

This could not be the whispers of the deceased,

The widow ascended to find comfort with her babe,

Praying the mocking taps to cave.

As she drifted into slumber a noise rang in her ear,

The familiar tapping accompanied by the drip of a single tear,

The whistle of the wind soon complimented this tune,

Along with the creak of a certain step her husband always said he'd fix soon.

The melody sounded almost familiar when suddenly it clicked,

It was their song they'd danced to due to his tricks,

He said that whenever it was played it meant he'd be thinking of her,

Meaning that even though he was gone his love for her was still a blur.

This made her heart feel almost warm for the first time in a while but she didn't fret,

Her husband hadn't forgotten what she thought would be so easy to forget,

He still adored her on all hallows eve as much as their wedding day,

I love you was all she had to say.
