(A/N: I wanted to try for serious. Enjoy!)

Summary: She wasn't crazy. No matter how many times she told herself, she wasn't crazy. So why did she still have to look out for her?

All In Her Head

A Bombalurina Fanfic

by Jill Diamond

"You hate me now. I can tell," she sobbed into his chest fur. The rivers of tears kept rolling down her cheeks, and there was no sign of stopping soon. Her temples throbbed in pain, which only kept the dams of her tear ducts open wider.

"No, darling. I could never hate you." He paused and kissed the top of her head tenderly. "You're the best thing that's ever happened to me.

"I am not," she retorted, harshly sniffing afterwards. "Being Old Deuteronomy's son; being the protector of the tribe-those are great things. Being mated to a nut case is not something you would call 'the best thing that's ever happened to you'."

"Demeter, you are not a nut case," Munkustrap soothed, wiping away a tear with his gentle paw.

"Don't lie to yourself. Normal cats can sit out in the sun and enjoy themselves. I have to constantly watch my back, and I scream his name even when it's something harmless."

Just outside the couple's shared den, Demeter's best friend sat unknown to them. She didn't make the slightest of noises as she eavesdropped.

She didn't want to listen in on this completely private conversation. Demeter was her own person, she should have been able to live her own life. But little did she know that the scarlet queen was shackled with the wings of her guardian angel. Tears of her own started to form in her eyes as she listened to the conversation.

Just leave them alone. They can handle this. It's none of your business she told herself in her head. And yet, she refused to move from her spot and go distract herself.

She cared about that black and gold queen so much. She was like the sister she never had. And that meant that Bombalurina had to always look out for her. Even if it meant eavesdropping on conversations like these. Demeter wasn't crazy; she knew that for a fact. And it killed her when she told Munkustrap that she was. She wanted to burst right into their den right now and confront her; make her stop being so hard on herself. But she couldn't. She wasn't even supposed to know about these moments of Demeter's. She wasn't supposed to know when Demeter cried, unless it was to her.

Of course, Munkustrap always did a fair job of reverting her back to her previous state. But that wasn't enough for Bombalurina. She wanted Demeter not to cry at all. Every time she shed a tear, in public or private, the scarlet queen's own heart ached, and she longed to make her stop. And in cases like these, she could do no such thing.

Demeter thought she herself was the most emotionally scarred cat in the whole Junkyard, and she was farthest from the truth as she could get.

The End

(A/N: Yeah, serious it was indeed. ... I don't think I have anything else to add. Bai.)
