"N-no…" The girl gasped and choked on a scream as the blade slashed against her delicate skin again. The man snarled with rage, his eyes radiating hatred. "I'm asking you one last time. Tell me where the Flock is!"
Maximum Ride raised up her head painfully and slowly. "I will never tell you, you monster." She tried to keep her voice from breaking; still it sounded feeble and weak.
The man howled and suddenly grinned, his slash of a mouth turning up at the corners. "Well, let's see if you still can stand this." He brandished the bloodstained knife in the air, arcing down – there was a splatter and Maximum Ride screamed, her agonized cry piercing through the silence of The School.
Her head lolled to one side as tears flowed freely down her cheeks, her eyes staring in disbelief at the bleeding stump she now had for an arm.
"You'll never find the Flock. They'll be safe forever," she rasped before blacking out into unconsciousness.
