"He's saving us."
Rory frowned, "From what? From him? We don't need saving from him. He's the Doctor."
"Yes," she sighed, "We do. And we always will. Because the second that blue box appears, we will race inside, ready for the next adventure. Ready to die. You can't tell me that you haven't said anything to him about the danger we get in around him, the people we've become. Because I've seen you two after you've been together alone for a minute or two, when something dangerous has happened."
"Yes. Well. Heat of the moment. You—we—love traveling with him, despite all that."
"He's afraid."
"Of us?"
"Of losing us. Of us being dead—well, really dead. Not like the times before. That wasn't really dead. Of us being dead because of him, or for him." Amy tried to explain.
"I don't understand."
"I don't either. But he understands us. He understands that we'll never, ever want to leave. All of space and time and everything." She laughed, "He said there was so much left to see. But."
"But what?"
"There are different kinds of adventures, aren't there? There's with him, and then there's here. Adventures of the domestic kind. Adventures of grocery stores and marriage and kids and teaching me how to drive."
"Not in this car." Rory replied. She shot him a look, and they stood in silence for a second. "Yeah, I know. If you'd wanted to continue traveling with him, we could have."
"It wasn't what I wanted. I don't know if it ever was. But do you know what, Rory? I still believe in him. Whatever he's doing right now, it'll be amazing and universe saving. It always is. And we'll be safe because of him. Alive, and happy. And we'll be happier because we knew him. Because he showed us ourselves and who we are really and who each other is, really. I love you, Rory Williams."
"Pond." He corrected her, "It may be something the Doctor introduced, but it's something that sticks. You've always been Amy Pond. And I've always been yours. Rory and Amy Pond, with amazing daughter Melody Pond. It sticks. No geography teachers in this family." He drew her inside and placed down the wine and the glasses. "Look, he's always been the big inconsistent in this family dynamic. So I hope he stays consistently inconsistent. He'll be back. He always comes back. We'll have just started to doze off one day, and he and River will jump back into our lives, scaring us half to death because they're being chased by some weird monster." He said, almost joking, but his wife just sighed and sat down on the stool.
"I don't know this time."
"I do. Amy, he loves you too much, and I think he actually likes me. He'll be back. The Doctor always comes back." He lifted her head up and kissed her forehead. "Always."
"You didn't see him."
"I didn't have too. He'll never let the girl who waited just wait. The waiting has to stop. He will come back, Amelia Pond." Rory said fiercely. "And if he doesn't I will find him so that I can punch him. Again."
She chucked softly, "Okay. Okay. He'll come back."
"Yes."
"I believe you."
"Good."
"But—"
He sat down on the stool next to her, "Yeah?"
"I have a new house with my amazing husband and absolutely nothing planned for the rest of the day. What's a girl to do?" She batted her eyelashes at him.
Rory's eyes lit up, "Really?"
"Yes."
"Let's go take it for a test drive!" He raced out of the door, grabbing the car keys on his way out.
Amy rolled her eyes at him in fondness and annoyance, grabbed her coat, and followed him out.
