"You're on vacation."
That single sentence made Mordecai and Rigby widen their eyes. Benson was a hard-working, serious man who would threaten to fire them if they didn't do their designated work of if they screwed up. Now, the truth beyond all truths, they were given the chance of all chances.
Mordecai frowned. "Wait, so you're seriously going to give me and Rigby…"
"A vacation?" finished Rigby in astonishment.
Benson had a stern look across his countenance. "Look, I've told you once and I'm not going to say it again!"
Mordecai lifted his hands as an instinct. "Alright, alright, dude, we heard you the first time!"
Benson dipped his head. "Good. Well, I'll be going to a vacation for my own. Pops will look out for the house. Muscle Man and Skips will come as well. While they're here Pops will make sure they don't screw up things. Got it?" he asked, pointing at them with one finger.
Mordecai and Rigby nodded quickly.
As they left the house Mordecai and Rigby walked out into the park blankly. They seriously had nothing to do on their minds. Mordecai was thinking about going to a monster truck rally but the tickets weren't open until next Tuesday. Rigby wanted to meet Eileen but she said she would be "educationally busy" throughout this whole week.
The two friends walk further into the park and ended up into an odd, empty space filled with endless trimmed grass. Mordecai notices first and stops dead in his tracks. Rigby almost bumped into Mordecai's tall legs but stopped himself right on time.
Rigby looked up with a frown. "Do you mind?" he growled.
Mordecai shushed him. "No, shh, dude, listen!" he whispered, looking over his shoulder.
A glittering, humming sound could be heard faintly in the distance.
"What is that?" asked Rigby.
Rigby was staring off into the distance as if he had his eyes fixed on something, or someone. Mordecai squinted his eyes as he noticed something floating in the air. It was faint due to its distance and they walked towards it. They stopped until they were about a couple of yards before it.
Mordecai was confused. "What the heck? Dude, Rigby, it's a floating cube!"
The cube had a lid that was slightly open. It hovered close to them, gradually. A light aura surrounded the cube majestically, as if belonging to a wizard.
"Who do you think it belongs to?" asked Rigby, eyes wide.
"I don't know, dude, but we better get moving," suggested Mordecai, afraid that, yet, something supernatural would block in their way.
Mordecai had spoken too soon and yet at a perfect cue. The cube had flew open its lid to spill out a bright light. Mordecai had heard a scurrying by his feet and had thought that Rigby already took off, but he looked down to see Rigby being pulled by the ears by some force of gravity in front of them. Mordecai stepped forward to grasp the raccoon's bushy tail but he only gripped thin air.
"Rigby!" shouted Mordecai as he felt the same tug dragging him towards the cube and Rigby.
Rigby was grabbing the grass weeds, only uprooting them as he was pulled, and now facing Mordecai with his lower half upwards. He and Mordecai were shocked speechless by the action and soon enough they were swallowed up into the magical cube.
The park was back to its silent state and the cube continued hovering peacefully, its lid closed shut.
