"Welcome," Robin said, "to the time of your life." His mysterious smile glistened in the dimly lit room. "This is the best thing you could be doing with your powers. Trust me you won't regret joining us." I smiled back and looked around. Dawn was just starting to creep up and I knew I'd have to be getting to school soon. I couldn't afford to miss any more days, especially considering I'd missed a month for training from the Justice League.
"Uhm….can't wait to be in action," I said smiling."I think I should be getting to school soon," I added. "It starts sometime around now. I'll see you guys as soon as I get out though."
"We'll try not to miss you too much," Robin said smiling back. I winked and snapped my fingers, disappearing into a single bolt of lightning.
"So how was school?" Robin said, laying a hand on my shoulder.
"Nothing to report," I said.
"You sure?" he said. "Usually they don't just make you stare at a wall for seven hours straight."
"You're quite the comedian, aren't you?" I laughed nervously.
"Stop harassing your girlfriend, Rob," Kid Flash said from the corner of the room we were standing in. Robin laughed deeply and shot a look back at Kid Flash.
"We're not—Dude you know—," he stammered. Embarrassed, I broke away from Robin's grip and walked over to a table near the wall filled with snacks. I placed my hands over the table and found that some water had splashed onto my hands somehow. One of my confusing abilities. I shook my hands and looked over at Robin. He shut his eyes tight and sighed.
"What's wrong?" I mouthed to him once he'd opened his eyes. He merely shook his head and headed out the door.
"I'm gonna go for a walk," he mumbled, closing the door behind him. The sound of it made me jump. I looked back at Kid Flash. He arched his eyebrows and shrugged.
"What'd you do that for?" I said. "You've gone and upset him."
"I was messing with him," he said. "Chill."
"But why'd it get him so worked up?"
"Maybe you should stop prying into other people's business," he muttered.
I was about to reply when there was a soft knock on the door. Aqua Lad walked in with Superboy. Robin trailed in behind them, eyeing me carefully. He walked up next to me and crossed his arms. Meanwhile, Kid Flash had joined Aqua Lad, Superboy and himself in a small huddle. They whispered a few words to each other and left in a small group. Kid Flash took a subtle look at Robin, and then left us both there. The door shut closed and Robin rubbed the back of his neck.
"We should get going," he sighed. Yet, he stood still and looked blankly at the wall.
"Wait," I said. "What's exactly going on with you and the guys? What does it have to do with?"
"You've been talking to Wally haven't you?"
"Kinda, yeah," I chuckled. "And I'm not sure whether or not he was telling me the truth…"
"It has to do with…shrubbery."
"Like a bush?" I said in disbelief."So you're keeping secrets and lying to me about it. Some friend you are."
"I'm not lying," he said quickly.
"If you say so, liar," I said angrily. I looked up into his eyes, searching for his response. Being frustrated on seeing nothing, I stepped on his foot.
"What—" Kid Flash opened the door, interrupting our conversation.
"Sorry to break up the drama, but we've really go to go," he said. "The assignment's turned out to be more urgent than we realized."
I sighed and looked at Robin, who nodded and looked over at me.
"Then let's head out."
