Living Dreams
Veronica Mars Fanfic
Pairing VM/DL
Post when Veronica finds out that Lamb has died.
Summary:
"Dad, I think I'm going to go out for a while. Just for a drive, ok?" Veronica said softly, not really waiting for a response. Keith watched her sadly, concerned with her solemn tone.
As Veronica got into her car and started driving away, three words kept repeating themselves in her head, Lamb is dead. She couldn't believe it, now who was going to laugh at her outrageous theories, who was going to arrest her on completely trumped up charges, who was going to take credit every time she brought a bad guy in and just be an all-around jackass. She simply couldn't imagine a world without Donald Lamb. Sure, ever since he became sheriff and refused to believe that she's been raped, they hadn't been on the best of terms, but she occasionally allowed herself to remember the times before that. The times when her Mom would make him come over for dinner because he didn't have family here, the times when he used to pick her up from school and take her to get a milkshake, the times when she had a huge crush on him because she just thought that he was the coolest guy she'd ever meet. Of course, those times were a long time ago. She suddenly realized that she was no longer driving and was startled to find herself outside his apartment. Making a quick decision she grabbed her keys and let herself into his home. The moment she stepped through she realized that it had been a mistake. Her senses were instantly overcome with the smell of him, a slightly spicy scent mixed with something distinctly masculine, something distinctly Lamb. As she glanced around, she was shocked to find that it was sparsely furnished. She would have expected him to have a very nice place, but all in all it was simple, only the essentials. The next thing to draw her attention were the pictures lining the hallway. There were some of people she didn't recognize but quite a few of them were of her family. One was a picture of him giving a twelve year old her a piggy back ride on the beach. Veronica remembered that day. It was the fourth of July and Lianne had come by the office to take Veronica and her dad on their annual beach picnic. Upon seeing Deputy Lamb all by his lonesome, Lianne had invited him to join them. Veronica had surprised him and jumped on him when he had his back turned. Another picture was one that had been taken on Veronica's fifteenth birthday. In the picture she was blushed as Deputy Lamb presented her with a beautiful cross necklace. Veronica fingered the necklace that still hung around her neck today and sighed sadly. My how times had changed both of them.
"You know, I remember going to buy that necklace for you at the store," Lamb's voice sounded from behind causing her to whip around and stare at him in shock," The lady at the store assumed that it was a for a special lady friend and wouldn't stop saying how sweet it was for me to get you something so nice."
"Lamb," Veronica breathed heavily and his name came out barely more than a whisper.
"What? You didn't honestly think that you could get rid of me that easily did you?" he asked as his trademark smirk came over his features.
