Sesshomaru sat with his back to a tree, watching Rin making a flower necklace by the fire he'd made. Though he hadn't shown it, what she'd asked him earlier had deeply disturbed him.
'If I die one day, will you remember me?'
He'd told her not to speak of such things, but he knew he would. She was the only human he'd ever allowed himself to care about, it would be hard to forget that.
Pulling the fur off his shoulder, Sesshomaru laid it down on the ground and laid back against it. He raised his eyes to the sky, thinking again of what she ask. He didn't notice Rin approaching until she laid down on top of a part of the fur.
Sesshomaru almost smiled. He remember the first time the little girl had done that. He hadn't minded it, something which had surprised him but Jaken had nearly screamed Rin's head off. Something Jaken had regretted moments later when Sesshomaru hit him on the head.
Sesshomaru watched out of the corner of his eye as Rin rolled onto her back and stretched. She too looked up into the sky, smiling to herself whenever she found a constalation.
Rin let out a sudden gasp, grab Sesshomaru and pointed excitedly at the stars. "Look, Lord Sesshomaru! A shooting star!"
Sesshomaru didn't respond, but Rin didn't seem to mind. She never did, Sesshomaru noticed. She was so unlike most humans he had met. She was so happy all the time, even if he didn't answer her questions or even speak to her very much. She was even capable of mostly taking care of herself, which had surprised him seeing as she was so young.
Rin stretched again, then rolled so she was inside the fur and leaning against Sesshomaru's side. Sesshomaru finally moved his head and looked down at her. He almost smiled again when he heard Jaken muttering over by the fire. He would never admit it, but he did so love to annoy the toad demon.
"Can I ask you something?" Rin asked.
Sesshomaru nodded.
"Would it be okay if I called you Father?" Rin asked.
The question shocked Sesshomaru, though he didn't let it show on his face. It also sent a funny feeling through him, something he'd slowly become used to around Rin.
Turning his head back to the stars, Sesshomaru let the idea run around in his mind. The idea pleased him if he was honest with himself. It gave him a nice feeling. The corners of his lips turned up a tiny smile; it would drive Jaken crazy, too.
He turned back to the little girl, who was looking at him with wide, hopeful eyes. His smile widened just a little, a smile he let only Rin see. She smiled back.
"Yes," He said slowly. "You may call me Father."
