Wakka stared longingly at the staircase ahead of him. The farplane. The one place he'd been dreading since Lulu's death.
"Go on, Wakka," Yuna said quietly, "It's time.
"Aren't you two coming?" Wakka asked.
"Rikku and I think you need to do this alone," Yuna replied, "we will right here."
Wakka once again turned his gaze to the stairs, and began the agonizing process of climbing. Slowly he made his way to the farplane's edge. Tears ran down his face, but he barely felt them. He let his thoughts stray to her; her sad smile, her vibrant gaze, she was beautiful.
"Lu," he said as he quietly gazed at her image, "I'm so sorry I let you die. I wish…I could go back and save you. I wish…I could tell you that I love you too. I don't know what to do anymore, I promised my brother that I would take care of you. I promised…"
Wakka heard his voice crack. The pain was just too much, he was losing it. Finally he sat down and cried.
"I hope you're ok where you are." He whispered through his tears, "I miss you so much!"
Suddenly he sensed another person beside him. He looked up and froze. "L-lu?" He asked, not believing.
"Yes, Wakka." she said.
Instantly he was on his feet, "But, how?"
"I'm…not sure," Lulu replied, "the fayth maybe?"
Wakka reached out and stroked her face, "You're really here?"
"For now," She said, "but I don't know how long I have. I just wanted you to know that it wasn't your fault. We both know I would have died even with Yuna's help. The reason I…let you do what you did was to protect Yuna. There was nothing she could do. I knew you could handle this. I couldn't let Yuna think I died because of her. I see now I made the right choice. I died for Yuna, and you did the best you could.
"I love you, Lu." Wakka said. He watched Lulu's eyes soften.
"I love you too."
"I can't help thinking what could have been." Wakka continued, "I wish you were here to enjoy Yuna's eternal calm."
"I am in an eternal calm, Wakka. There is no sin in the farplane." Lulu replied quietly.
Wakka slowly grabbed her around the waist and pulled her close. "I know." He said, "I just wish we were together."
He felt Lulu's arms wrap around him, "Me too, Wakka, Me too."
For a while they just stood there, two friends from two different worlds. Finally Lulu pulled away.
"It's time for me to go, Wakka." she said.
"I know," Wakka replied, but Just a little while longer, ok?"
"I can't Wakka." She said, "Promise me you'll continue looking out for Yuna?"
"I will," Wakka said. He watched as she slowly began to disappear.
"Tell Yuna not to give up. Tidus very may well turn up one day. And don't forget, Wakka, I'm looking out for her as well.
Wakka watched until only pyreflies remained.
"Wakka?" He turned to see Yuna. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah." Wakka replied, "I think I finally am."
Yuna looked over at her best friend, her sister. "Sometimes…I see her, you know?" she said quietly, " I'll yell her name, even run over to her, but every time there's nothing there. Kind of crazy, huh?"
"No, Yuna. You're not crazy." Wakka said, "I do too."
"Do you need more time?" She asked.
Wakka looked once again into Lulu's eyes, "No. I think I'm ok."
"So, home then?" Yuna asked quietly.
"Yeah, home." Wakka answered. "Don't worry if you see Lulu, Yuna, it only means she's watching out for you."
"You mean all of us." Yuna corrected, "Lulu's looking out for all of us.
