Humans never failed to amaze him. This one, for example, has known him for a day and yet here she is, running into his ship - leaving her family and friends - to travel with a man she knows nothing about. Although he realised that it was probably better that she knew nothing about him - he was fairly sure, in fact he was certain, she wouldn't be standing next to him now if she knew what he'd done.
Of course, on the same vein, he knew nothing about her. But he'd always been good at seeing people, especially Humans, for who they really were behind the masks they all wore. Rose was brave, good hearted and much cleverer than she thought or acted.
She was watching him expectantly, so he chatted about where to take her - deciding first on a hundred years in the future and then, for reasons he tried to deny even to himself, changing his mind and taking her to witness the last hour of her planet.
And she let him, followed him without question. Too much trust. Faith that he doesn't think he deserves - not now. But he lets her carry on, because he needs her. He needs her innocence, her humour and most of all, her courage.
She was still overawed by the TARDIS, he could see it in her face. After this trip, he'll show her around. But first he wanted to see what she was really made of. If she was really up for his life and everything it entailed. Actually no, he suddenly thought, not everything his life entailed, not yet - not ever.
