The Day After
Sam pulled in to the school parking lot the day after the dance. After she shut down her car and grabbed her backpack she was met by Carter. His dad had just dropped him off in a rent a car since his Mercedes was trashed by the sign at Fiona's. "So, how long are you grounded?" Sam asked as they walked side by side toward the front entrance. Carter sighed. Don't remind me, Sam. He thought.
"Well, how long is forever?" He said with disappointment. "So, you're not going to tell Austin?" He asked changing the subject. Sam of course wouldn't budge on the matter. Why won't he just let it go? She pleaded internally.
"Come on, Carter, it's not like he's gonna be pining for me. Trust me, he's forgotten all about Cinderella by now." As they walked through the double doors Sam instantly froze as if she saw a ghost. Her jaw dropped immediately. Oh, my god! The walls were cover with yellow fliers asking if anyone had seen Cinderella with Austin's phone number at the bottom. She slowly walked towards the middle of the lobby gazing down the other hallways to see if they were cover with the fliers as well.
"Oh," she said quietly. Sam became completely speechless.
"Yeah, he obviously forgotten all about you," Carter stated with a bit of sarcasm. Sam turned around to look at him trying to hold in her emotions, but as she turned away from him she couldn't help but crack a smile and giggle. She had to admit that it was pretty flattering. Just the day before no guy had even given her a chance. But today a guy was going through all this trouble just to find out who she was. However, her insecurity has always won her internal battle. Was it possible that this time would be different?
