Tumnus watched his wife sleep, her hair spread out on her pillow. Her covers were pushed down to her waist and her hands were on her stomach. Tumnus was standing by their bed, gazing down at his perfect, delicate Lucy.
He had been up since dawn, unable to sleep any longer and instead of leaving their bedchambers, Tumnus stayed and enjoyed the sunrise. Once the sun had risen, Tumnus had sat beside the bed and studied his wife. He had sat there for little over an hour when Lucy started to awake. Turning her head toward him she opened her eyes, squinting against the sun.
She smiled and said, "Good morning my love."
Tumnus looked at her lovingly. "Good morning Lucy."
Lucy's arms went over her head as she stretched, her back arched off the bed slightly. Tumnus leaned down and kissed Lucy, a quick kiss on the corner of her mouth.
Lucy murmured, "I love you."
Tumnus grinned. " I love you too Luce."
Lucy sat up in bed, her hair in a complete disarray. She still looked half asleep, as if she was having a hard time opening her eyes fully. Her cheeks looked rosy and healthy.
"I have something to tell you." Lucy said. Tumnus looked at her curiously.
Lucy patted the bed beside her. "Come, sit beside me."
Tumnus sat down on the bed and put his arm around her shoulders. He kissed her on the temple, waiting for his wife to speak. Lucy rested her hand on Tumnus's leg. Although it was early morning he already had his scarf around his neck, a light green that really brought out the color in his eyes.
"What is it Lucy?"
"Well...." Lucy trailed off.
Tumnus was ready to think something disastrous had happened but then her saw his beautiful wife smile her radiant smile at him and he relaxed.
"I only found out a few days ago." Tumnus took his arm away from Lucy's shoulder and held her hand.
"I'm with child. Tumnus, we're going to have a baby! "
Tumnus's jaw dropped to the ground and it took him awhile to find his speech. "W-what?"
Lucy nodded eagerly. "Yes, a baby! Can you believe it?"
Tumnus shook his head. "No! I can't! But, I mean, a baby?"
A smile broke out on his face and he squeezed Lucy's hand. Jumping up he pulled his wife up and danced around the room with her. They laughed out loud together until Tumnus pulled her into a hug and they lapsed into silence. Slowly they rocked back and forth, swaying together as husband and wife, soon to be father and mother. Lucy reached up to touch Tumnus's face and pulled her hand away wet. She looked up and realized her husband was crying. Tears flowed steadily from his eyes, and even as they did he let out another laugh. Lucy laughed herself and kissed Tumnus, softly, knowing they had many more moments like this before them.
