My family's alive.
They're alive. They're alive.
The words ran circles through Cain's mind as he sank to the bottom of the lake. He should have been thinking about the fact that he was currently sinking to the bottom of a frozen lake and should, quite honestly, be dead. Or at least dying.
But, his family was alive. Cain smiled.
And then DG's face flashed across his mind. The smile became a frown as the Mystic Man's words repeated.
"You will not leave her side at any cost."
When Zero entered the bedroom, he hadn't considered retribution. His only thought was giving DG time to escape. He'd broken his word to the Mystic Man. And then Zero mentioned his family.
And now, here he was, about to die at the bottom of a lake. He'd broken his word again.
His wife; his son... They were alive. He should be happy.
Why then, was his heart breaking?
