Gwen Tennyson was excited. Today was a Thursday, and it was the first day of summer. Her Grandpa Max had promised a summer trip with her, Kevin, Rook, and another person. She didn't know who the other person was; Grandpa Max had said that it was a surprise.
Ever since that summer five years ago with her younger cousin Ben, she had learned a whole lot about the Plumbers. In fact, she was a Plumber herself, along with Kevin and Rook. Kevin was her partner; Rook was her partner too, but he was a cadet in training.
Gwen learned about her Anodite heritage and how to use her powers. Kevin learned about his Osmosian heritage and how to control his powers better. And Rook was still learning Earth slang and expressions, as well as how to be a good Plumber, but Gwen and Kevin were helping him out with that.
Kevin was now 16, Gwen was 15, and Rook about 11 in Earth years. If Gwen remembered correctly, Ben was now 10. She really did miss him. He was shy and she had just gotten him to come out of his shell when the summer had ended. He was still skittish, but that was to be expected.
Gwen walked to Plumbers HQ with a yawn. It was practically 5 in the morning, but Max had wanted to see them early. She saw Rook and Kevin waiting for her.
"Where's Grandpa Max?" she asked.
"He said he was gettin' the other kid who's gonna be with us for the trip," Kevin responded.
"I must admit that I am a little curious as to who this person is," said Rook.
There was a sound of a door opening and the three Plumbers turned around to see Max holding a boy in his arms. The boy was fast asleep, his face snuggled into Max's shoulder. He had black and white shoes, green cargo pants, a black shirt, and a white hoodie with green on it. His brown hair was messy as it was clean.
"Who's he?" Kevin asked.
At Kevin's voice, the boy stirred and showed off his brilliant green eyes before closing them. Gwen gasped softly.
"Is that… is that Ben?" she stammered.
Max smiled and nodded. Gwen immediately went up to her grandfather, asking to hold him. Max nodded again and gently gave Ben to her. When Ben realized he wasn't as warm as before, he grunted softly and snuggled closer to Gwen, not quite wanting to wake up yet. Gwen giggled, as did Kevin, Rook, and Max.
"Hey, sleepyhead. It's me, Gwen," she whispered softly into her cousin's ear.
Ben, once again, opened his eyes and he perked up at the sight of her.
"Gwen!" he said softly while giving her a big hug. "I missed you."
"I missed you too, Ben. You ready for the summer trip away from home?"
He nodded and she laughed.
"Figures I'd only get a sentence out of you."
He gave her a cheeky grin and looked at the other two males that weren't Grandpa Max. He looked at Gwen with his big, green eyes.
"Oh! Well, go on and say hi!" Gwen said.
Ben wriggled in her arms, a sign he wanted to be put down. She obeyed his silent command. Once his feet were on the floor, he slowly walked up to Kevin.
"Hey, Benji. You remember me?" Kevin asked.
