Prologue

"So there's nothing I can do. Nothing." said a grey cat. "When you became medicine cat, your destiny was there. But you must brace for the climax of your destiny, Cinderpelt." murmured a tortoiseshell she-cat. "Spottedleaf, you're right. But what about Leafpool? I know she's meeting that cat, Crowfeather." mewed Cinderpelt,"She's betrayed me, and I'm hurt. And now she's gone, and never will come back." Then Spottedleaf replied, " Quick, Cinderpelt, wake up! Wake up!"

Her eyes stretched open. She heard heavy footsteps marching into the ThunderClan camp. Her fur bristled, and she let out a wild growl. Then she heard a yowl pierce the air. "Cinderpelt! My kits! They're coming!" "Sorreltail, I'm coming to you!",Cinderpelt yowled back to the kitting queen.

Then she heard a battle cry from Brambleclaw. Badgers! They were attacking the camp! Teeth met flesh, and claw met fur. Many were already wounded, and Sootfur, Sorreltail's brother, wasn't moving. Then a tiny wail filled the air, and then another. Cinderpelt rushed into the nursery, and pressed Sorreltail's flank. "Two more to go.", she muttered. Then Sorreltail heaved and another kit came.

A badger then saw the two she cats, both weak. It tore through the nursery, it's steely gaze on Sorreltail. Cinderpelt followed her instincts and threw herself in between the two. The badger flung Cinderpelt to the side, and an earsplitting crack sounded. And the last thing she heard was the cry of a tiny kit.

The first thing that Cinderpelt saw when her eyes closed to an interminable darkness was her mentor, Yellowfang. Cinderpelt thought she was there to lead Cinderpelt to StarClan. But she wasn't there for that. She was there to tell Cinderpelt something important.

"Are you here to lead me to StarClan?" Cinderpelt inquired. "No, Cinderpelt. That is not your destiny. It never was." murmured Yellowfang. "What is my destiny? Tell me!" cried Cinderpelt. "You are no longer to be Cinderpelt. You will be sent back to ThunderClan, for another chance of life. That is your destiny from this moment forth."

A pool appeared, and it was sucking in Cinderpelt's memories of her past life. She saw her memories draining out of her mind. Her apprenticeship with Fireheart, her romantic feelings for a cat she could not ever have. And the sadness of the death of her old mentor, Yellowfang. She felt her name leave her, and then the pool closed. The gray cat next to her said, "Go and follow your destiny." A brilliant light appeared in front of the cat.

And she walked through the light, not knowing what would await her. Yellowfang watched on and whispered, "May the light of StarClan guide your path. Be strong, for the Clans have been waiting for this moment." And she walked off, with a strange sadness engulfing her senses.
