"Come in…"
The door to Hotch's office opened and Reid came in, or rather dashed in. He sat down in the chair across from Hotch and rubbed his hands up and down the front of his pant legs.
"Everything okay Reid?"
"No… Um look, I know that I came in here last week and really complained about not getting out in the field as much as the others, but I think I need to recant that request."
"You lost me."
"Well, I know that I begged to go out in the field. I accused you of not trusting me to be out there with the others. "
"That's not true Reid."
"I know you don't trust my ability to shoot straight. I guess your right about that. Emily won the pool this year when it took me four tries to re-certify."
"Reid… That's not what I thought at all."
"I'm just saying that I was hasty in wanting to get back out there again." Reid was rambling on as though he didn't hear anything Hotch was saying to him.
"Reid…" Hotch nearly shouted.
The young profiler's head popped up and his mouth snapped shut at the look on his bosses face. "Y-yeah… Hotch!"
"Would you stop rambling and tell me what the problem is now?"
"It's Morgan…"
"What did he do now?"
"He drives like a maniac. I'm trying to navigate in a city that I'm not familiar with, while we're chasing a serial killer and he's complaining about my map reading skills. I barley had enough time to read the map. That's how fast he was going."
"So because you ended up in a high speed chase with Morgan at the wheel, you want to hide in the precinct whenever we get called on a case."
"I wouldn't use the word "hide," Reid said with a very offended tone.
"I would."
Reid gulped at the way Hotch was glaring down at him. "Are you sure this is what you want, because once you agree to stay behind, that's where you'll stay. I have to be able to trust that you're going to be able to react the way I need you to react in the field. I can't have you freaked out by Morgan's driving skills or anything else."
"Yes sir, I won't complain again."
"Good, now may I please get back to work in peace?"
"Ah… yeah, sorry sir," Reid leaped to his feet and dashed back out of the office.
The next knock at the door was Morgan. "So, I saw Reid run out of here like his tail section was on fire."
Hotch pulled a fifty out of his wallet and passed it over to Morgan. "I don't know how you called that one."
"Let's just say that Reid and I have had our differences about motor vehicles in the past and leave it at that."
