Just watched Chimera and this is how I think it should have ended. I mean come on, they had to have known about the search Pete got the FBI guy to do on Sam and would she seriously just let it lie?

Anyway, I hope you like it :D

Jack walked into the base gym and was surprised to find Sam beating the crap out of a punch bag, literally. The bag had actually split she was hitting it so hard. He walked over and held the bag steady for a few moments before she stopped and rested her head against the bag.

"What did the bag ever do to you?" he asked quietly.

She just shook her head. They stood for a moment more, Sam breathing heavily, before she spoke, "He ran a background check on me."

Jack nodded; he knew that, General Hammond had told him as soon as it had happened. He didn't say anything; just let Sam carry on talking.

"I mean I can't believe he did that. Why would he do that, and then he followed us to the stakeout and nearly got shoot." She started banging her head against the bag, muttering to herself, "Stupid, stupid."

Jack reached out and put his hand on her shoulder, stopping her movements. "Woah Carter can't have you damaging that brain of yours now can we."

Sam just shook her head then looked him in the eye, "Do you think this is a bad idea sir? I mean he obviously doesn't trust me if he had to run a background check. He was saying that if we wanted this to go anywhere then we had to be honest with each other and then he goes and gets the FBI to check me out."

Jack was silent for a moment, part of him wanted to tell Sam that of course it wasn't going work but he also knew that was the jealousy talking while the other part was still thinking over what she had said. In the end he asked, "Does he make you happy?" and that was really all he cared about, as long as Sam was happy he didn't care how miserable he was.

Sam nodded then shook her head then shrugged, "I don't know. Part of me wanted this to work cause them I would have something normal in my life but the rest of me is annoyed that he rang the FBI and then followed us to Daniel's."

They were silent for a moment until Jack asked quietly, "Have you been to see him since they brought him in?"

Sam shook her head, "I wanted to decide if I thought this was going to go anywhere first, because if I think it is the General has given me permission to tell him what I actually do."

Again Jack nodded; Hammond had also told him this. "So what are you going to do?" he asked, pushing for an answer.

Sam looked him in the eye for a few seconds before she looked at the split bag and then at her feet. "I'm not going to tell him, I'm going to end it, I don't think I can trust him again after this." Jack just nodded and Sam's gaze turned back to his. "I'll always have you won't I sir?" she whispered.

Jack pulled her into a hug, "I'll be here for you Sam, always."

She nodded and stood in his arms for a moment longer before she pulled away, they were after all still on base and anyone could walk in at any time. She gave him a smile before pulling of the gloves she was wearing and unwrapping her hands. She then put the glove on the bench and grabbed her jacket. She gave Jack one last smile before disappearing down the corridor, heading towards the lift to go and put things right with Pete.
