Velo City; a beautiful bustling place popular with various musicians of various levels. Those who have persevered and succeeded in their aim for the highest ranks have revelled in their fame and fortune. But for those who are starting out, it is a place of opportunity, a chance to seize the moment in their musical career and make their way to the top of the charts. Spots are tough to get as there is much competition, but for many bands competition is only but a mere stepping stone.
This is the story of a young band fresh from Green Hills; a small town area in the far countryside, on their quest to participate in the Emerald Music Festival, a competition that distinguishes the best from the rest. But as a band without even a record label, they would really have to work in order to even participate in the competition.
"Sonic look!" Amy Rose; a pink hedgehog myumon, tugged at the sleeve of a blue hedgehog. She pointed out the window of the bus they were travelling in excitedly, excitably bouncing in her seat as the bus drove along the highway displaying a scenic view of a practically sparkling city. "It's Velo City Sonic! Can you believe we're actually going to be there?" Amy pulled Sonic's arm and squealed, "Oh I'm so excited!"
"C-Calm down Amy, it's just the view." Sonic tried to tug his arm back from the girl but it was pointless. He sighed and turned to his other friends behind them as if pleading for help.
"It's not just a view Sonic." A young fox looked out the window at Velo city, "It's much more than that. I have to agree with Amy on this one." Miles Prower; usually known as Tails, smiled widely as his eyes sparkled, marvelling the scene. "Think of all the song inspirations I can get from there!"
"I know right?" Amy sat on her knees so she could face Tails, "And I can help Sonic with the lyrics! Think of all the great hits we could create!"
Tails jumped in his seat, "I can't wait!"
As the two young ones talked in excitement a red echidna sighed, "Come on you two we aren't even there yet." He crossed his arms and leaned back in his seat next to Tails. He adjusted his headphones and closed his eyes briefly. "You realise that us living there isn't going to be easy. We're lucky we managed to save enough money for the trip. Do we even know where we're staying for the night? Or even the next night? Or the next?"
"Aw lighten up Knuckles," Sonic turned behind him and grinned, "It's not every day we get to go on an adventure far from Green Hills."
"Pah, the sooner we have a stable home there the better." Knuckles looked at the opposite window with a serious expression on his face, "I don't want all our efforts to be wasted. We've gotten this far haven't we?"
"Which is why we'll do all we can to go all the way!" Tails raised his arm in the air in reponse to Knuckles."
"See? You just gotta believe. Things will be perfectly fine." Sonic smiled and turned to lean back in his chair, relaxing with closed eyes.
Knuckles glared at the seat in front of him before shaking his head in defeat. Chaos that hedgehog was so carefree. But then again, Sonic did get them further than he thought in their music career. Well, so-called music career. They were just an indie band without a record label. Hopefully there would be one in Velo city that would take them. Preferrebly a good one. If Knuckles dared, maybe Robo Record would take them. But they only want the best of the best.
Which of course, made the competition to get in very difficult. But it would be practically guaranteed if they won the Emerald Music Fest. But then to participate all bands are required to have under contract with a record label. Knuckles' frown grew deeper as he pondered over it all.
"Knuckles your face…"
He glanced up, broken from his thoughts to see Amy staring at him curiously. "What about my face?" He asked her.
"Was something troubling you?" Amy tiled her head.
"Ah don't worry about it Ames." Sonic gave a sly smile, "Knuckles just needs to untwist his pants is all."
Amy stared at Sonic in confusion, wheras Knuckles gave the back of Sonic's chair a mighty kick, making the hedgehog male fly face first into the back of the chair in front of him. Tails just stared at Knuckles curiously.
"Ow, what on earth was that for?" Sonic rubbed his nose with a groan while Amy placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, wondering if he was okay.
"For opening your stupid mouth." Knuckles grumbled, "Save it for the vocals."
"I was just teasing knucklehead," Sonic turned back to Knuckles with a hand over his nose; glaring at the red myumon. "Haven't you heard of the phrase "don't get your panties in a twist?"
"What kind of myumon uses a phrase like that nowadays?" Knuckles gave Sonic a look but all Sonic did was stick his tongue out. Wow, real mature.
"Your nose isn't bleeding is it Sonic?" Amy was about to pull out her handkerchief from her purse as a precaution when Sonic placed a hand over hers.
"I'm fine Ames, don't worry about me." Sonic winked, making the girl blush. He patted her hand and stretched with a yawn, putting his arms behind his head. "Wake me when we get there."
"You'd only get about an hour's worth of sleep Sonic." Tails checked his watch, "I suppose that would be enough for a quick nap. Maybe I should get some sleep too."
"For once we agree, we've been travelling all day." Knuckles crossed his arms once more and leaned back into his seat, properly closing his eyes. "Wake us later Amy."
"Are you seriously making me stay up to look after you guys?" Amy huffed and leaned her elbow on the windowsill, her gaze drifting to the lights of Velo City. "Well it is night time." Her gaze shifted and she found herself looking upon the snoozing blue hedgehog beside her, she gave a loving smile before removing her green and white jacket; tucking it over Sonic like a blanket.
Amy then brushed his hair gently, placing a tiny kiss on his head. She froze slightly when Sonic stirred, but she sighed in relief when she found that he was still fast asleep.
She gave one look behind her at the others before returning her gaze to the window.
Suddenly Amy felt her phone buzz in her purse. She pulled it out, finding that it was a phone call.
"Hello?" She whispered; picking it up, she did not want to wake her sleeping bandmates. "Ah yes, we'll be there in about an hour. What? Oh that's perfect! I can't thank you enough for housing us. I know it'll be a bit crowded but I'm sure the boys won't mind sharing a room for a while. Yes. Okay. Thank you thank you! Oh you're too kind. I hope your band won't mind. Excited? Really? I'm flattered. Hehe yeah. I can't wait. I miss you too "bro." Amy chuckled softly. "What? Oh no, I'm quiet because everyone's asleep right now. Hm? Ah yeah, I guess I'll see you later." Amy closed her phone and placed it back in her purse. She stared at it dazed with excitement.
"Nn who was that Amy?" A soft voice broke her from her gaze, making her turn suddenly to the seat beside her.
"I'm sorry Sonic did I wake you?" Amy leaned forward slightly.
"What? Nah." Sonic lied, he couldn't exactly tell her he had been awake the entire time. Especially when she tucked him in with her jacket. "Maybe near the end of it but it's just that I don't sleep well on transport." Another lie.
"Hm okay." Amy replied, leaning her back against Sonic; which wasn't so easy with an arm rest between them, her legs crossed so she could get a comfortable position. "I was talking to a friend. He offered to let us stay for the time being at his place."
"He, huh?" Sonic released an arm from underneath Amy's warm jacket and placed it around her.
"What no it's not like that." Amy mumured, turning to Sonic with narrowed eyes. "We met at the annual Green Hills Indie band event."
"Hmmm…" Sonic raised a brow.
"I'm serious! Silver and I don't have that kind of relationship."
"Guys shhh, some of us are actually trying to sleep here." A sleepy Tails spoke up, "Save your love squabbles for later okay?" He said before returning to his slumber.
"Sorry…." Amy muttered before leaning back into Sonic's embrace. "And it's not a love squabble we're not dating." She pouted.
"So his name is Silver?"
"Sonic please, I thought you wanted to sleep. You're not even my boyfriend." Amy gave Sonic a look that he couldn't quite get. He sighed.
"Fine fine, there's nothing wrong with me getting worried about my bandmate is there? What if you decide to run off and become that Silver's bassist or something?"
Amy turned and placed a hand on Sonic's chest, staring at the golden bracelet around her wrist. "You know I won't do that." She said quietly.
Sonic glanced down at her and pouted slightly, pulling her closer and leaning his head on hers; knowing she'd be happier with some affection from him. Even though they weren't dating. Nope. Not at all. Music first.
He blushed when she giggled and snuggled up to him. He begun to whisper a song, making his bandmate purr slightly.
"Sonic you're going to make me fall asleep." Amy playfully patted his arm, her voice hushed.
"That's the idea." Sonic whispered, "I'll wake you when we get there." He returned to singing, watching with gentle eyes his Amy fall asleep in his arms.
