I thought of this while sleeping last night, it's odd that this story came to my mind and I couldn't stop thinking about doing this story. I've had many different versions of this story playing in my head but I think I came up with a great way to write this story. It's a bit different from my other stories but I thought it needed to be written. I hope you like this, please read and review I would love to know your opinions on this.

This is mainly a B/R story but with some Ted. The story takes place through the years from 2004 to 2030 and starts off in 2030. Now, I don't think what happened in the finale of the series is actually true but for this story I think it's fitting to have the events of 2030 and the final scene of the original ending of the series as a setting start to this story. The story will go back and forth through different years of B/R knowing each other, their friendship, romance, breakups, pining, never dying love is all in this one story and I like this theme cause it plays with time. Mainly, Barney & Robin's time together, apart, being friends and being a couple and for the most part a secret couple. Some of this is canon, some is not and some is made up by me.

Enjoy!

2030

"I can't do this anymore Ted, I'm done. I need to get out of here." Robin knew this wasn't a healthy, smart, easy or a truthful way of doing this but it has to be done. This is the only way to break the news to the Mosby's without completely feeling like she's regretting it. It was hard to do this but she needs to be with her family at her home. She didn't think this was going to last three months but it did, Ted thought they were dating and she let him think that for the three months. But, it's time to go home to her real family, the family she used to not think she wanted at one time in her life.

Robin grabbed her jacket, keys and bag and left the house without another word slamming the door behind her. Running to her car, she got in the car and left the Mosby's home as she faked a good cry after a well thought about fight. After a pit stop for an half an hour, she had packed a goat, not just any coat her long, winter trench coat. The one she used that one time to seduce a sad, depressed Barney and also the time she and Barney got engaged. It was a special coat, one that she only wears on special occasions even if it's hot enough to wear a jacket or nothing. She stops at a gas station, finds a bathroom and once alone in the bathroom she strips down to only her panties putting her clothes she had on into the bag that had her coat in it. Now, it's late summer and almost fall but it was still hot enough to not wear any coats or jackets but this was going to be a surprise. One that she knows Barney loves.

"Did you do it?"

"It's done."

She smiles brightly at him and he extends his arm, crabs her hand and pulls her into the apartment.

"I can't believe you finally gave him the boot."

Robin knew this decision would be a tough one on Ted and his kids but after so long being apart from Barney and her family, she felt it was time to let them go. Albeit in not such a nice way, even though she left them in a heat, she still adores the kids and Ted has always been a great friend to her but it was time.

"Yeah, well it wasn't easy." She says in a light tone of voice with her breath starting to get short and her heart beat raising as he kissed her passionately on her lips.

"I know, it had to be done. It's for the best. We missed you so much." He starts to take off her coat, revealing that she doesn't have a thing on underneath it.

"Wait, where are the kids?" Robin asked out of breath a little from Barney kissing her on the spot he knows is her favorite spot for kissing. It turns her on instantly and with a slightly out of breath whisper she pushes him away from her a little to find out his answer to her question.

"My mother's. She came about an hour ago after I told her what's going on she didn't ask anymore questions on why the kids need a babysitter for the weekend." This was the first full weekend, first full and free weekend they had together and the first full weekend since realizing that they're still in love and never stopped loving each other even after they divorced all them years ago.

They kept seeing, more like bumping into each other through the years since they split up and through those years both came to realize and understand that giving up on each other even when times were hard and her job forced them to grow apart in those last months of their marriage. But, it those years after, both just couldn't seem to stop thinking about the other and soon one talk lead to another and soon they were back in each others beds quicker than both wanted. They were apart for so long that the memory of each others touch started to fade a little. But, when they met again only two years after they divorced everything from the memories of being together, having a nice friendly chat to the way they make each other feel. Everything, started to come back but their timing was a bit off.

She pulls him back in and kisses him with full force. God, it's been so long since they felt one another. Since they wanted each other in this way because everything has been so complicated and busy for both of them for many, many years.

"Wonderful. God, I've missed you so much." Even though they have two kids and are married again. Both have been living completely different lives and again the timing was off a little bit.

"Me too. But, how on earth did you get away from Mosby looking like this?" Barney asking after he removed her coat, revealing nothing underneath it.

"I may have made a short pit stop to change." Robin says in a flirty tone giving him full eye contact as she says this.

"Damn, I love you." Barney couldn't wait any longer, he grabbed her hand again and pulled her in the bedroom.

Afterwards, they lay in bed completely spent after their lovemaking. Again it's been way too long since they had such passion in their relationship. The last time was when Robert was conceived.

"So, it's over between you and Ted?" He had to ask, this crazy back and forth she was doing wasn't healthy or sincere on her part. Barney knows it's been hard for her to leave Ted and his kids behind but he knows it needed to happen. And, sooner rather than later.

"Yes, sort of." Her hand gently rests on her favorite place on his body. His very chiseled right bicep, it's always been her favorite spot on his body because she loves the feel of it underneath her skin. It feels like home to her, the only home she's ever known.

At one time in her life she didn't think she wanted a life like this but then she didn't think she would ever meet her soulmate. But, after sometime and the memories of trying to get him off her mind was a waste of time. She finally realized that her home, her favorite place in the world is right here. Right now, in bed with Barney after the most amazing earth shaking sex they ever had.

"Sort of?" Barney knew this wasn't the best plan to get rid of Ted but he thought that it could work and by her reaction earlier, it seemed like the deed is finally over.

"Well, I faked a fight with him. It's been coming on a lot lately, we've fought over everything and clearly have different opinions on things. It was bound to happen no matter how stupid or fake it was." Robin knew this wasn't the best plan either but knowing that she and Ted have had shouting matches for weeks about whatever the topic was. Was going to begin to happen again, after so many fights it was the only way to leave Ted. She adores his kids, sure but they aren't her kids and are not her family. They are Tracy's and Robin understands now that she will never have an undying love for a family that isn't hers. As much as she loves Ted and his kids, Tracy will always be there because that's who Ted will always love. Robin is just a replacement. With, Barney she doesn't feel like a replacement and understands where she belongs. Where she always belonged.

It took her so long to understand herself, her needs, her wants, her desires, her goals, her life and even though it took her along time. She knows now that meeting Barney had changed her life forever and her opinions on what a real family should look like.

"I've taught you well." Barney's proud but not too proud knowing she had to make this big move. But, nonetheless, he is proud of her for setting Ted free.

"There's one little thing I didn't do though..." Robin knew this was going to get brought up, she waited a while to tell him this but since everything is in a good place between them and she's made her decision. It was time for him to know...

"Um." Barney let her continue with what she needs to say hoping this isn't something bad.

"Ted doesn't know about us. I started this fight with him over nothing and stormed out then came directly here to see you. I didn't get to tell him about us or our family. I don't think anyone knows about our family yet either. I hope you aren't mad that I still kept us a secret from him." He understands, he hates that she kept this a secret, still from Ted but he understands.

"No, I get it. You need some time to tell him this news. I hate that our family is still a secret to everyone but when you're ready we will tell everyone together." Barney can tell that she wants to tell Ted in her own way at the right time. But, he wants this all to be really over with and soon so they can officially go public and tell everyone who doesn't know about them being together or their family.

"Yes, in time we will tell everyone but I want to tell Ted alone, face to face because I owe him that much. He's gone through a lot in these six years." They slowly drift off to sleep after this finally at peace with finally, officially being together without much secrets to keep other than from their close friends.
