Eternal Boredom
(A spoof based on a well-known song entitled Forever Autumn)
I wrote this as a joke - how your average college student would feel
were the Martians to land and force us all to turn tea-total.
Here's the disclaimer thingy - I don't claim any copyright with regards
to the War of the Worlds (fab book - seminal sci-fi and a must-read for
all) or the musical of the same title, by Jeff Wayne (really good
stuff, also)
~~~
(Verse 1)
Term-time's been
Over since
The Martians touched the ground.
But there's no
Celebration here.
The tripods took out
All our breweries.
We got no beer!
(Verse 2)
The world's been
Conquered by
Some prohibitionists.
Their parties
Are described as drear.
Destroying human-kind
Is fine by me...
But leave our beer!
(Refrain)
Born of warm hops and yeast,
You came to comfort me...
That heat-ray was released
And blew you away...
(Verse 3)
A man can
Stand up to
These overwhelming odds.
A man with
Courage has no fear.
Still, the occasional
Helping hand is nice...
But there's no beer!
But there's no beer!
But there's no beer!
(Instrumental Verse)
(Refrain)
Born of warm hops and yeast,
You came to comfort me...
That heat-ray was released
And blew you away...
(Verse 4)
Life since the
Martians came
Has really got my goat.
I'd like to
See them disappear.
This is what's
Called eternal boredom.
We got no beer!
We got no beer!
We got no beer!
[And fade out - That's a wrap, folks]
