A/N: Had this idea, and decided to roll with it. Um, kind of sad. I don't own Twilight.

I was watching Nessie, Emmett was playing video games, Carlisle was at work, Esme was at some meeting, Edward and Bella were doing something they didn't feel important to tell me, and Rose was with Alice shopping.

I walked back into the room I shared with Alice, only to find my niece fast asleep on the bed. I picked the little girl up and started to carry her to her room. I looked down at her as she nestled into my chest. That's when I was hit with the wave of pain. The pain that I hadn't felt in so long. It was mine. I started to sob quietly, quiet enough not to wake her up, and not loud enough for Emmett to hear.

I put her in her bed, and tucked her in. I walked swiftly down stairs and out the back door of our house without Emmett noticing. My quiet sobs persisted until I was across the river. I let the sobs wrack my body. I fell to the ground. It felt like my sobs were ripping me in two. The memories were so painful.

I walked in to our house, and little Sarah jumped into my arms. "I missed you," she said. "I was only gone for an hour," I replied smiling. "I know, but I like it when you are here. Then I know I am safe." I held my eight year old sister tightly. She didn't know that I had gone to sign up for the Army.

I entered the room as soon as I was allowed. Nine months ago I left one, but now I come home to two. I see my beautiful Amy, holding the most perfect little girl I have ever seen. "Welcome Home," Amy greeted me. I stared amazed as I moved toward our bed. "Why didn't you tell me?" I asked. "I didn't want you to worry," Amy replied. I gently leaned down to kiss my baby girl. "Her name is Elizabeth, Elizabeth Jasmine," Amy told me. Two months later, Elizabeth got sick. I also had to leave again. The war was getting worse.

I read the words for about the fiftieth time. "Elizabeth couldn't make it through the winter. She only got worse. She passed this morning." I looked up as the officer came into my tent. "Congratulations, Whitlock, you were just given the rank of major. "

My phone buzzed in my pocket, but I didn't feel like checking it. I just held my torso, as my arms were the only thing holding me together. I stayed in that position for a long time.

Alice eventually came to get me. Emmett had called her when he realized I wasn't in the house and that I wasn't answering my phone. By then the pain had lessened. She didn't ask questions. She knew. She was the only one, besides Edward, but he didn't ever bring it up. She knew that it still hurt, that I had the same pain as Esme, but she didn't care that I had been married. She loved me anyway, and that is what mattered.
