`Twas brillig, and the slimy stones

Did gyre and gimble in the wave:

Ol' flimsy were the borogrones,

And the tone-raths outgrave.

"Beware the Tantawock, young one!

The jaws that bite, the wings that slash!

Beware the Loo-Loo bird, and shun

The furicious Haberdash!"

She took the Vorpal Gems in tow:

Long time the manxome foe she sought

So rested she by the Harmony Tree,

And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in snuffish thought she stood,

The Tantawock, with eyes of flame,

Came spiriting through the Cascade Wood,

And snarled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through

The Vorpal Jewels went flicker-flack!

She left it dead, with its stone head

She went gallóping back.

"And, has thou slain the Tantawock?

Come to me, my dear little miss!

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"

He chortled in his bliss.

`Twas brillig, and the slimy stones

Did gyre and gimble in the wave:

Ol' flimsy were the borogrones,

And the tone-raths outgrave.
