In His Memory

It was something that was hard to comprehend.

How could someone so prominent in her life disappear so quickly?

She kicked her foot deeper into the mud, splattering it a few inches in front of her. It didn't seem fair.

He was an icon of what they'd all been fighting for. He was their inspiration!

What would they do without him? The flame was dying. The job of rekindling it was left up to his younger brother.

That was quite a burden for such a young boys shoulders. It wasn't even hers to bear but she could feel the weight of it already.

Or maybe that was the sadness…The sadness of losing him. She loved him. Just when they'd had the opportunity to really begin a life together, he was gone.

She quickly wiped her face of the stray tear, smearing dirt and blood with it. Now wasn't the time to show weakness. Not when the group would need strength and support the most.

She straightened herself up, brushed her wet bangs out of her eyes and looked back at the camp. It was up to her to help the young boy become a strong leader, and she would do everything in her power to achieve the dream that they'd all been working so hard for; in his memory, and honor.
