Sleep
She stood at his door like an angel. White dress gleaming brilliantly in the dark, her blue eyes large with fear, silver-gold hair spilt over one shoulder messily.
"What's wrong, Naminé?" he asked, rubbing his eyes to wake him up. The sky was black outside so it couldn't be early. She took one look at his tired face and regretted ever coming to him at all.
"I'm sorry… I shouldn't have disturbed you. Please, go back to sleep."
"No, no! That's okay. I'm awake now anyway. So, what's up?" The Replica didn't even have to wait for an answer. Thunder clashed outside and Naminé jumped about 10 feet. He chuckled. "You're afraid of lightening."
Naminé shuffled her feet and nodded. She asked meekly "can I stay in here?"
"It depends," the Replica smirked, "what are you planning to do?"
"Um, sleep?" Naminé said, "or I'll just sit on the floor. I don't mind, I just don't want to be alone."
The Replica's smirk dissolved into a tender smile. The innocent hadn't understood what he was implying. She'd been cooped up here alone for too long.
"I'm not going to let you sleep on the floor, Naminé!" he rolled his aqua eyes. "Here, come in." She did so and he closed the door, shuddering from the cold that spread down the corridors. In the darkness he took her hand and led her towards a large bed with dark, silk covers. "Lay there," he said. She complied, trembling still. Meanwhile Replica lit the fireplace.
A bright glow emanated from the flame that suddenly burst forth, revealing the Replica in his entirety. Naminé blushed, averting her eyes. She hadn't realized he was shirtless. Her cheeks reddened even more so as she heard him laugh faintly. There was a slight rustling and she looked back to see he had settled on the floor with a blanket. She sat up quickly.
"Riku! I'm not going to let you sleep on the floor…" she trailed off, realizing she had used his exact words. She blinked twice. He laughed.
"I'll be fine," he waved his hand carelessly, "I'm a big boy now."
Naminé faltered, "but…"
"No 'buts'" he answered, leaning against a chair, soaking in the comfort of the fire. He closed his eyes, ignoring her.
"Fine," Naminé sighed, knowing she couldn't win. He was too stubborn. She pulled the covers back over her and laid down, muttering, "you'll probably melt though."
He replied with a simple, "mm-hm," and then he was asleep.
The storm continued to rage outside, the rain crashed against the window, the wind howled, and lightening struck, sending blinding flashes over Naminé every time. She tried to ignore it, to sleep, but only ended up tossing and turning half the night. Finally the girl fell out of bed tangled in the covers. She unravelled herself and gave a startled cry as a big bang sounded outside. She clamped a hand over her mouth, terrified…
Trembling, she turned towards the Replica. He was still sleeping. Grasping her blanket, she tiptoed over and sat beside him, wrapping it around herself securely. Another bolt of lightening struck, making her bite her lip and shuffle closer. Sleepily, the Replica mumbled something and placed an arm over her, pulling her close whilst he dozed. Naminé buried her head in his shoulder and dropped off after only a few more minutes.
She slept like a baby.
