Summary: Morgana arrive at Camelot in the grey winter...
Morgana arrived at Camelot in the grey winter. The horse rode slowly into the great courtyard, her father's steward sitting behind her, entrusted by Uther to deliver her safely into his care. The man dismounted and reached up to lift the young girl down, setting her on the floor.
She was all dark hair and large uncertain eyes. Uther found her somewhat painful to look at, seeing in her the ghost of his dead friend, but he smiled at her all the same.
Arthur stood next to him, looking pensively at the girl. It was hard to tell what he thought of her arrival.
The steward gave her a little push on the back, encouraging her to go and greet her new guardian. Morgana hardly moved, seeming hesitant and afraid.
Frowning, Arthur looked up at Uther, an expression of mild distress in his eyes. He didn't understand why the other child was so scared. Then purposely, a decision made, he walked up to her, almost comical in his grandeur, and bowed politely to her. He took her hand gently and kissed the back of it as he must have seen other gentlemen of the court do when an important lady arrived. Morgana giggled a little at that, her face lighting up.
Arthur led her over to his father as if presenting her to him. That warmed Uther somehow.
"Hello, Morgana," he said with a kind smile. "Welcome to Camelot."
He took her hand, guiding her into her new home. It didn't escape his notice that she turned back and looked at Arthur, smiling at the young prince shyly.
The boy returned her smile, blushing a little at her attention but seeming to be pleased by it all the same.
Uther couldn't help but imagine what their future together might be.
