A/N: So this is my first time writing a dark fic and a death fic. It's about the final battle with Zeref and the aftermath. Hope you guys enjoy it. Well don't enjoy it, or else you guys have no hearts

Blood was spilled.

With the powers of END going berserk, Zeref was finally defeated at the hands of his own creation. This moment will go down in history as a huge step for the world of magic. However, it will also be remembered as one of the darkest days in history.

Following the defeat of Zeref, Natsu wasn't able to control the mighty powers of END. The powers were so overwhelming that Natsu couldn't even resist it a little. He let out a demonic roar that could be heard all around the world and proceeded to go on a rampage, attacking his own comrades. Many of his fellow guild mates tried to stop him, but it was no use. He had the powers to kill Zeref. What else could they have possibly done? They were obviously no match for Zeref's greatest creation.

Lucy who was fatally injured was just staring at the outraged demon in horror. All Lucy could do was pray. She prayed that Natsu would conquer the devil within him. But after watching her best friends get hunted down and slaughtered one at a time, she knew that this was the end. She knew that there was no stopping him.

"NATSU! SNAP OUT OF IT!" Erza yelled as she defended herself against the flames of the demon.

From the call of his friend, Natsu's original persona awoke inside the demon's body.

'Er…za…?'

The boy that everyone loved opened his eyes, and saw that he was fighting with his own comrades. He then remembered what had happened.

Gray tried to kill Zeref with his devil slayer powers, but the ice mage wasn't able to approach him quick enough. He then became a victim of Zeref's death aura. Looking at his friend fall to the ground, his lifeless body not moving, Natsu was quickly overwhelmed with rage and sadness. This had triggered Natsu's second persona, END.

"Everyone get away from me!" Natsu yelled. But no one could hear him. He may have his consciousness, but END has his body. He tried his best to take back his body, but he couldn't

"DAMMIT!" Natsu screamed as he cried.

END continued to spar with Erza, while Natsu could only watch in fear. Fear for the life of his best friends. Erza quickly got overpowered and END gained the upper hand. To Natsu's demise, END finished Erza with a fiery blow to the chest.

'I'm sorry…' Natsu cried into his soul hands. He had just witnessed one of his closest friends die, and it was by his own hands.

That was not the end, though. END continued to finish off his remaining comrades, while Natsu could only helplessly watch on the inside.

By now, every Fairy Tail member had been obliterated. The only one left was Lucy, who was just staring, with no emotions.

END began to approach Lucy, who didn't move from her spot. She had already accepted her fate. If she was to die by the hands of her best friend, then so be it.

END was now in front of Lucy. He began to reach for her neck, and the blonde closed her eyes. But before END could grab her, his arm stopped midway.

"YOU KILLED ALL MY COMRADES! YOU'RE NOT TOUCHING LUCY! I'M NOT LETTING YOU!" Natsu yelled in his own consciousness.

Lucy opened her eyes to see what had happened. She saw that END was struggling. END then grabbed his head and began to roar angrily.

'Could it be…?'

"Natsu…?" Lucy questioned as she slowly tried to reach for the demon.

But before she could, END's rampage began to worsen and he flung his tail at Lucy. Lucy was knocked to the ground, causing her to flinch. Her wounds got deeper and bigger now, but she didn't give up. She got back up on her feet and put on a determined face.

"Natsu! I know you're in there!" Lucy shouted. "I know that you're struggling right now! We all do!" Tears began to roll down her cheek. END continued to rampage, flinging his entire body around. "If you can hear me Natsu! I know you can beat him! You're much stronger than that! Are you really going to let this demon get away from all of this? After what he has caused?! I BELIEVE IN YOUUUUUU!"

Natsu on the inside could barely hear her words, but he got the gist of it. If Lucy believed in him, then he should believe in himself.

The pink haired boy began to concentrate. He's trying to take back his body by beating END mentally. He tried hard to move his body, but it wouldn't budge. END was no weakling. Natsu pushed harder, to try and move his arm. Veins began to form on his head of his real body. He was having an internal struggle for his life. It was either he saved Lucy, or he would never forgive himself. Using this as motivation, he was determined to overpower END.

Slowly, but effectively, Natsu's hard work paid off. He began to slowly overtake his body and eventually, he finally broke free from END's curse. The horns, wings, and tail disappeared. He didn't know how long it would be before END took back his body, but he was happy that he was back right now.

Panting heavily, Natsu kneeled on the ground. He looked around to see the bodies of his fallen comrades and began to cry.

"Natsu…?" Lucy reached for the boy's face. This time, she was able to reach him.

"Lucy… I'm sorry!" Natsu cried into her chest.

Lucy wiped her tears. "shhhhh… it's okay… I know it's not your fault." Lucy began to stroke his hair.

"No… it is my fault! I killed everyone! EVERYONE! EVERY LAST ONE! IT'S ALL MY FAULT!" Natsu cried louder.

"It's okay…I'm still here…" Lucy hugged Natsu.

"It's not okay! It's because of me! Why am I not strong enough?! I went on a one year training journey to get stronger, to protect every last one of you! BUT LOOK AT ME NOW! I WAS THE ONE WHO MURDERED EVERYONEEEE!" Natsu yelled. He pulled away from Lucy.

Natsu got up and began to walk away, with his bangs shadowing his eyes.

"Where are you going?" Lucy asked.

"I can't be here. If I'm with you, you're just going to be in danger. I don't know how long I can suppress him for. I can turn back any second." Natsu replied.

"Don't go Natsu! Don't g-" Lucy tried to run after him, but she stopped. The blonde felt a sharp pain on her abdomen.

Natsu turned around to see Lucy down on the floor.

"Lucy! What's wrong?!" Natsu shouted as he ran back to her. He held her upper body up with his arms. Lucy was now coughing out a lot of blood.

"Don't… go…" Lucy smiled with tears in her eyes as she cupped Natsu's face.

"I won't'!" Natsu cried. Natsu began to examine Lucy to see that a bloody pool formed around her. "What's happening?! Lucyyyyy!"

"P-p-promise me… don't leave me." Lucy mumbled. She began to cough more blood.

"I won't!" Natsu cried. He cupped her cheek. Natsu could only think about Lucy right now. Nothing else mattered. He knew that she wouldn't make it with that wound. But he tried his best to stop himself from breaking down even more.

"I-I-I won't… die. I want to stay by N-n-natsu's side. Ever since Natsu was little. He didn't have any real parents. His foster parent… a-a-abandoned him, and left him all alone." Tears continued to fall. "H-h-he often acted childish, but is more attentive than anyone. Natsu's life had been very hard. All of his very b-b-best friends, all left him. I don't want to see Natsu suffer like that. I-I-I promise to give you ha… ha… appiness." Lucy began to cough more violently.

Natsu couldn't take it anymore. His heart was slowly breaking.

"Listen to me, Lucy. I don't want you to suffer like this, Lucy! I don't want you to suffer! Go on. I'll be fine." Natsu tried to hold back his tears.

"Don't want to…" Lucy mumbled.

"I'LL BE FINE, REALLY!" Natsu couldn't hold his tears back anymore.

"Don't want to…"

"Go on."

"I-I want to stay…"

"No… the one left behind suffers the most…" tears continued to roll down her face. "I don't want you to feel that kind of pain."

"Listen to me… listen to me… I'm your best friend, I'm a person that loves you! I really can take it, believe me! Just let me stay behind and take everything alone, okay?!" Natsu cried.

"No Natsu… I-I want to go home. B-back to F-f-fairy T-tail. With you… Will y-y-you take me?" Lucy was now running out of breath. "I'm a proud mage of Fairy Tail. You were the one who brought me in. We are of the same place. Take me h-h-ome." Lucy gave a weak smile.

Natsu couldn't take it anymore. He was hurting too much.

"Okay… fine… I'll take you home." Natsu faked a sad smile. "We'll go back to… Fairy Tail."

Lucy nodded lightly, now crying from happiness. "Okay."

Natsu looked at Lucy one last time, and carried her up bridal style. Blood was covering her clothes, but he didn't care. He began to walk with her, back to their home. They passed by his comrades bodies, and he promised that he would come back and give them a proper burial. It was a few minutes, and Lucy was smiling weakly, while Natsu looked like he was emotionally drained, with a tired expression.

"Lucy. You're tired. Go on and close your eyes." Natsu said.

"I-I don't want too. I don't want to close my eyes." Lucy said weakly.

"Go on, sleep a little." Natsu continued.

"I'm afraid that if I close my eyes, I won't wake up." Lucy said even weaker.

Natsu fought back his tears and urge to cry. He then put on a fake smile.

"Silly. When we get home, I'll wake you up."

"Really?" Lucy smiled weakly.

"When we get back, you and me, we'll go on a mission, just like the old days. Okay?"

"Don't lie to me." Lucy smiled weakly.

"When did I ever lie to you…?" Natsu faked a smile.

With her last breath, Lucy gave one final smile as her arms and legs began to limp. All Natsu could do was stare up at the sky and fight back his tears, and he continued to walk forward.

A/N: So that's the end of this tragic story. I left it open ended. You guys can decide what Natsu does now.
