The front door slammed shut, making Regina jump in surprise. Seconds later Henry ran into the kitchen, breathless.
"Henry!" Regina scolded, "How many times do I have to tell you not to run in the house?"
The boy tried to catch his breath, before he started talking. "I'm sorry, but…"
Regina interrupted him, before he could say anything more. "I don't want to here excuses, Henry. Rules are meant to be followed."
Her son grunted annoyed. "I know, but…"
Regina rolled her eyes. "Henry, I don't want to hear it! Go to your room." She pointed to the door to show she was serious.
"It's Emma!" Henry finally got out, before his mother could interrupt him again.
"Emma?" Regina frowned, "What about Emma?" She realized Henry was looking kind of shaken. Something must have happened. She felt bad for not letting him talk.
"She got a phone call. I don't know who it was or what it was about, but they said something and Emma fell to her knees sobbing. I tried to calm her, but I don't know what to do" He was looking so young when he was scared.
"Where is she? I'll help her, Henry. Don't worry, she'll be fine." He quickly hugged her, then grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the front door.
"Let's drive, it'll be faster!" Henry said, already making his way to Regina's Mercedes.
Upon entering the blonde sheriff's apartment, Regina froze. Emma was still on her knees in the middle of her living room, crying her eyes out.
The brunette hurried to Emma's side, sitting down next to her and pulling her into a tight hug. The blonde immediately wrapped her arms around the brunette and let her get comforted.
Regina quickly sent a text to Ruby, asking her to come and get Henry for the night. Emma needed her and she didn't want Henry to worry too much.
After being held for hours, Emma finally calmed. "Do you want to talk about it?" Regina asked her.
The blonde hesitated for a moment, but seeing the concern in the other woman's eyes she gave in. "It's Lily, my best friend growing up. We finally reconnected a few weeks ago, after being apart for years and now… Now, she's gone and I'm never going to have her back."
Regina didn't exactly understand what the blonde meant. "I'm sure you'll see her again, Em."
The blonde shook her head, a sob leaving her mouth. "She died in a car crash yesterday."
Regina, knowing what it felt like to lose someone you love, tightened her grip on the blonde.
"I'm so sorry, darling," she whispered in the blonde's ear. "Is there anything I can do to make you feel a little better?"
Emma looked at her girlfriend, thinking for a second, before nodding. "You can give me a kiss and then spend the night holding me?"
Regina smiled slightly and leaned in until her lips brushed against Emma's slightly. "I can do that," she whispered, before kissing Emma lovingly.
When they broke apart Regina got up and helped Emma stand as well. "Why don't you go and lay down, while I call our son and tell him you're feeling better?"
Emma pouted a little. "Don't be too long?" Regina shook her head, smiling and kissed her.
Regina held Emma all night long. Although the sadness wasn't completely gone, at least she wasn't alone to face it. She had a family, HER family, there for her.
