Happy holidays, everyone!

This is the shortest thing I've written in a while, but I'm pleased with the way it came out.

Innocence

When Sora returns to the Digital World for the first time in four years, she wants to cry. Not with joy at seeing Biyomon again. Not from the sense of belonging that erupts in her chest at returning to this world she'd so long ago considered home.

Had she given in to them, Sora would have wept bitter tears. She watches these other kids—the new Digidestined—being introduced to this wonderful, beautiful, lethal world for the first time, and they have no idea what's in store for them. Because they don't see the last part. Not yet. They're too distracted by the wonder, the beauty. By getting new clothing, of all things.

They're so… young.

They can't see the way this grand adventure they're on is going to tear them apart from the inside out. Until they start to doubt their purpose here. Until they're not really sure who they are anymore.

They're so… unprepared.

And she wants to warn them, but there's no real way to prepare someone for this. Before long, this world will strip them of their youth and leave behind warriors.

They don't understand yet how difficult it can be to bow down to parental authority when you've saved the world. They don't understand yet what it's like to have real responsibilities. With real consequences.

Sora wants nothing more than to step in and take these burdens from them. To let them remain children, awed by simple things. But she can't. This isn't her battle anymore. And that is so, so hard.

Review please!

I don't own Digimon.

I recently rewatched the early episodes of 02 and this drabble kind of just sprung into being. I hope everyone's having a good holiday! I'm off to go work on another update.
